Pioneer PL-620 - opinions please

Post by hatman72 » 22 Jan 2020 23:54

Hi, I’ve got the option on a Pioneer PL-620 but I’m struggling to find much about this turntable. Does anyone own one who could give an informed opinion? Is it decent, or are there any issues I would need to be aware of?

Thanks!

Well, I don't own one but I looked at the manual for it in the library here. It's a direct drive semi-auto from the early '80s, looks decent enough, but one thing that is kind of off-putting to me is that it doesn't use a 'standard' type head-shell. I like rolling vintage cartridges and like being able to swap around 2-3 head-shells set up with different cartridges for one turn-table. Hope that helps a little bit.

Thanks, I thought it looked fairly decent. I don’t think the head-shell will be factor as I won’t be swapping cartridges often. My main table is a Rega, and that doesn’t even have a detachable head-shell!

If you decide to get it please post your thoughts on how it compares with your Rega. I know it'll be sort of an apples & oranges situation, but I'd still be interested to hear it.
