5 pin tonearm cable source

Post by monkeyking » 18 Feb 2009 11:55

I recently acquired a Luxman PD 270 with a Micro Seiki MA 505 arm on it. No cable to hook it up! This is my first experience with the 5 pin to RCA cable so I searched a lot on here and figured out what I needed. I believe the 5 pin connection is known as DIN or JIS depending who you ask.

There was a thread about this a while back which mentioned the need for keeping up the search for more affordable versions of this cable. At the time I think the least expensive was the Clear Audio Wildcat from Needle Doctor which checked in at $75 US plus shipping.

During my searches I happened across a review at Audiophilia.com regarding cables from Ultimate Cables in Canada. (http://www.ulitmatecables.com ) (no affiliation to me). The review was very positive so I'm giving them a try. 1.2 meter DIN to Neutrik RCA for $70 US and no shipping charge to me.

Haven't got the cable yet, but I haven't any qualms about the quality being better than anything I'm currently using.

Just thought it might be a good source to get into the database for future searchers.

Hello Monkeyking,
our own VE member Audio Origami makes excellent tonearm cables to order! I just received one from him for my SME 309, to my specification. Very nice, sturdy and sounds good! Just go to http://www.audioorigami.co.uk

Excellent news!

Probably should have looked at that in the first place. Hopefully, that info will now come up with a general search on 5 pins.

Thanks.

Note that 5-pin Din interconnects use 30 degree spacing, and 5-pin tonearm cables use 60 degree spacing.

Cheers,
Alec
