Subsonic filter

Post by 1770_ron » 25 Jan 2019 01:11

In the late '70s and early '80s, I recall a few outfits offered simple external subsonic filter devices you could insert into the RCA phono input on older amps which lacked adequate subsonic filtering. Is anybody making these today? Do today's new phono preamp sections incorporate an effective subsonic filter to protect one's woofer cones from uber-low-frequency distortion from resonances, warped or off-center records, or acoustic feedback?

The MoFi StudioPhono has one that is "on" by default, and can be turned "off" by pushing the button next to the "Mono" button on the top of the unit.

Plenty of subsonic filters around, although I haven't seen many in the phono amp. I have a KAB and it reduced the woofer pumping and hasn't changed the sound.

Good subsonic filters can be very useful.

The KAB is highly regarded - "KAB RF1 HI QUALITY RUMBLE / SUBSONIC FILTER"

KAB's products have a good reputation. I wish their ugly website was as nice as their gear.
