Recording audio files from pc on to cassette

Post by chrisjnryan » 15 Dec 2017 18:22

Hi, new member here so sorry if this isn't quite the right place to ask! So basically I want to use the music files on my PC and record them onto cassettes (to make mix tapes). I've been advised that to do this I'd need a Behringer UCA222 to sit between my pc and rca cables into the cassette deck audio in. I assume this would change the digital files into analog format? Anyway I'd really appreciate some guidance here! Is the behringer all I need or is there something else? I'm sure its possible to do this somehow. Thank you all in advance!

If you connect a 1/8 mini plug to RCA adapter from your PC audio connector to the cassette deck it should work.

Yes, I agree, PCs usually include an analogue audio output connection, sometimes on the back. RadioShack is a good source for the (inexpensive) cables needed.

The Behringer might be needed with some computers that don't have digital to analogue converters, however PCs include these.

I don't have any personal experience with the uca222 but I think it should work for what you intend it for. It says you can connect the output RCAs to either a mixer input or active speakers.

It seems some might use it for converting tapes to digital, but I can't see why it would not work the other way as you intend to do.

Your computer has no headphone output?
That's very unusual.

You can get an HDMI to RCA adapter that will split the HDMI signal into three RCA jacks. One for video and one each for L and R audio.
Costs about $10

But then you will need an HDMI splitter, if you want to be able to connect sound and video to your monitor or TV at the same time.

Oh that's useful - so the splitter and hdmi to rca is cheaper than the USB option??

I don't know how much the USB option would cost, so I can't say.

WOuldnt it be easier to put the audiofiles into a program like audacity to make a mixfile into an Mp3, that you can listen to on your phone or computer?
Would you be listening to this tape on the tape player alone?

It would be yes, but I'm trying to make a good old fashioned mixtape haha! Just for the pure romanticism of it really. guess I'm a glutton for punishment.. #-o

I would use Virtual DJ (free application) into my Behringer UCA-222 to the Russound TMS-1 connected to a tape loop on my preamp. One of my cassette decks would be recording the output from Virtual DJ. Virtual DJ allows for crossfading and beat matching between two virtual TT's.
