PT too belts

Post by jy3 » 15 Jan 2018 12:06

I can buy an original PT belt for £24.99, an Origin Live for £33.00 and also one for £6.99. What do PT owners on here use, and would the cheaper belt have any serious lack on sound quality?

I wish I could Help Dave but have had no experience with this yet.

Where does one buy the original belt ? I have seen the OL belt advertised on the true point site so it may be good but it seems over priced (not as over priced as a Linn belt though)

Maybe the cheap one is worth a go ? You will know then if it is any good.

I am sure there must be people on here that can answer the question......

Links to the ones seen on ebay.

I will probably go for the cheaper one unless someone chips in with negative comments.

I think I have tried one of the cheaper ones (Malvern Audio/dappletoft) and could not notice a different. The original ones come from the Funk Firm - they also sound good. I may try an OL one, as a couple of people I know reckon they can hear an improvement.

Not much Help, but that is all I know!

I have also bought belts from Malvern Audio and found them to be fine and reasonable value.

Have bought belts in the past that were listed for Garrard
Found them to be every bit as good as the 'specialist' items :!:
A lot of bull [-X spoken about belts.
Just get the right one---not too much tension #-o

I ordered the cheaper belt yesterday. Will update my findings when the belt arrives.

I have the belt that came with my PT (said to be a PT supplied belt), an eBay cheapie, a Malvern audio and Origin Live versions. Not sure if I can honestly say any one sounds radically better than the other. There are differences in start up performance as some belts definitely slip more than others and yes I think they do sound ever so slightly different but I would suggest the differences are very subtle, not worth chasing and if you want your £30 to make you smile buy some more vinyl instead. Possibly heresy but the biggest single night and day improvement I made to my PT Export was changing from the AC motor to the Origin Live DC motor kit, suggesting the DC motor was the right philosophy from the outset.

Sorry I have not replied as promised. I have received the belt but am still waiting for my cartridge to be returned from Esco.

Well I finally have my cartridge back after retipping (Esco did not receive my original confirmation email). I can say this new belt is much tighter than the old one, the PT was purchased 2nd hand, so I had no idea on how old the belt was. Well the new belt works fine, don't think I would be able to hear differences in belts, since the tt is sounding very good now.
