I've been looking for some way to listen to the old radio documentary "The History of Rock and Roll". It was released by KJH in 1969 with Robert Morgan narrating, and lasted 48 hours and then re-released in 1978 narrated by Bill Drake. I have vivid memories of this on the air in 1978, all the band interviews and information.

I have been looking in vain for a place to listen to it, short of trying to re-assemble a set in pieces. I had finally found a site, alicefaye.com that had most of the 1978 version, but that site has gone down in the last two months. I listened to it in June, now it is not coming up.

Does anyone here have a vinyl or reel copy of the broadcast? Or better yet, a digital copy? Does anyone else remember this great show? It was broadcast over Labor Day weekend in 1978, 52 hours of it.

A copy which is complete will be hard to find. And mainly only available on 1/2 track, 7 1/2 IPS Stereo only. And those reels will be very big money assuming you have something proper to play them on. And they're 10 1/2" reels. Not a lot of those tapes out there which survived.

I see pieces of it on vinyl, at least the 78 and 81 versions. I'd love to own a copy, but will settle for a digital copy or even streaming source. It was a great show.

The vinyl discs were for on air use and not for public sale to begin with. For broadcast only. And they're expensive because they're collected avidly by broadcast transcription collectors.

I have several various airchecks on tape and CD...Some vinyl radio shows and digital files, but I've yet to find that one...If you do find it, Brick, let me know!

While I was on the road a couple weeks ago I got an ebay notification about the Drake/Chenault version of this show. Now I own 32 of the 52 discs that comprised the entire 1978 broadcast. Gentleman I got them from worked with Bill Drake for a long time. Been spinning them for a couple days, great show. Only 20 more to find...
