That's one I'll look out for . . . A mouthwatering prospect.
Many thanks from Bill.

It's well worth finding this great 2 LP set.
It not only contains great Handel compositions, the performances, recordings and mastering , etc are first rate .
It's one of those great sounding 2 LPs sets that when you play one LP, you then have to play/hear the other one.

Unfortunately, this particular LP was just a US release
However, I believe it was first released in 1981 by "CRD records" in the UK.
Look for a performance by ' L'Ecole d'Orephee". :)

EDIT..
I found the exact same recording ....The UK release on CRD Records. :)

Beethoven - The Six Early Quartets (op18)
The was performed by "The Guarneri Quartet" and is on the RCA "Red Seal" label.

It's a great 3 LP box set.
I played the first two LPs yesterday, and I'm playing the third LP now :)

Two easy listening works that are often overlooked, - no doubt because of the vast wealth of great works out there, are the Caucasian Sketches by Ippolitov-Ivanov & the Rustic Wedding Symphony by Karl Goldmark. Two composers which I feel are often overlooked.

The former I have on an RCA done by the LSO under Anatole Fistoulari and the latter has been recorded by the Utah SO with Abravanel (my favourite), & released on several labels, Vanguard, World Record Club & others. It has also been recorded by Bernstein & the NYP on CBS.

These works are very suitable for "introducing" classical music (with good Hi-Fi), to those who wish to "taste the waters".

The last movt, of the Caucasian Sketches, - (Procession of the Sardar), introduced me as an 11 yr. old (many, many, years ago!), to classical music & opened up a whole new world. The Rustic Wedding is like a set of tuneful variations, with the opening movt. on soft basses, great for good Hi-Fi, but like many recordings there are good & bad. The ones mentioned, I seem to prefer & are not too hurried. - The last movement referred to, is a procession, - NOT, a hurried march which comes to mind on some recordings. Also, having an oriental flavour, this delightful & very evocative piece has wonderful rythyms such as in the 3rd. movt. (about 13 mins. in), where there is percussion with oboe* and you easily "picture" the dancer. However, I would be most interested to hear from anyone who has favourite recordings of these works.

Just some different musical thoughts.
