Speaking of self-destructing, this was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psnCd3aFLmc

(My kindergarten teacher actually had to tell me to stop humming the tune one day during class... awkward...)

And no '80s childhood was complete without this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecsu7l05V14
OK, flashback time again!!

I remember "Inspector Gadget" very well, and I grew up with "Sesame Street"...

I also grew up with this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtc7A67kZlQ

And speaking of a complete 80's childhood, you had to have watched these at one time or another...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q84HUwBJPxk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAmy4t2SqY4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukSvjqwJixw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBwBWGCrH7U

And then, there are a whole bunch of these classics that we can't forget...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQTqKcojrVY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9CVL3pxD-k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrbPAt1_vc4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YD22a4APsCg (Flatt & Scruggs had a 45' version of this called "The Ballad Of Jed Clampett"...Even Spike Jones did a version!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_PZPpWTRTU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YFk4b6yeX4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuHr00nxeew
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO2w27z53_s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfSLuEj99d0

I'm sure many of those bring back memories!

As does this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfSLuEj99d0 There were many 45' versions of this theme by people like Johnny Tillotson, James Darren, Billy Carr, and others...

And then, in the 70's, I remember these classics fondly...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DDvBoaEWLU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS5IgC6fQGg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnkk6if64mk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6fSEf6tnG4

Now before you call me a dipstick and tell me I've been breathin' swamp gas...

These two epic series need to be mentioned...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KtAgAMzaeg And the 45' version, which was on THREE different labels by the way (Earthtone, Applause, Collectables)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QczHDwr15GY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiBywcHKqHA And the vocal version on 45' was this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlZdFmEdffg

Let's not forget a couple more 80's throwbacks...

A sitcom... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqjraGlU8ME
And a drama... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDsv-sZbulw

And what about those daytime soaps... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykW6OaDc1TY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poO9o9YHi9c (Originally "Cotton's Theme" and changed to "Nadia's Theme"...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYpVSooT4qU

And to all you cartoon lovers out there...Dig this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_cpV00c4IE

And you might get a roundhouse kick to the head if you don't remember this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vBeV1FNcGE

Do you feel like you're in one of these now? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP2TEdOAldQ

And why do I remember this, too, from the 60's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU0bD3AVAF8 There's this, too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO8P1U6uMls

Of course, these are some of my favorites, in my opinionation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk7tAC9RI7w

And once I put this funky little thing on... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWFQXs2_et8 ...

The sun IS gonna surely shine!

So my question to you, guys, is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN 30 YEARS THAT TV SHOWS DON'T HAVE CATCHY THEME SONGS LIKE THIS ANYMORE? Every show used to have it's own flavor, it's own style, and that started with the theme song!

Boy, any more of this ranting, and I might end up here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8ATwnLDgfs

And I don't need that!

I would be remiss if I missed these, too...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSaDPc1Cs5U
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHhePr0TKfc
or the later remake... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsxgcLf0TSY

And what about these from the 70's...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FepgxmNDuZ4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4TQtLqXFM4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4ReSTFDAHU

And then there were these westerns...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3og2vRPnV8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa6ej4OqAIo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls6GfHXmOrM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HrY2Ynn4Jo (I have a Hugh O'Brian 45' from when he was on this show...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRNImRxRNjc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu-8W-Sredo

And the KING OF THEM ALL... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjdRgBAY278
Here's the Lorne Greene version... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA-PdP4k4Xw

Speaking of Lorne Greene, who remembers these...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHp9oZPqs8E (The full version, too...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYNqSMfC28o

And speaking of another "Bonanza" actor, who remembers these...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKVvZhTQl0k

Which reminds me of this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpmRcP8S7Bo

And then there's this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBvjnqnMKhU

Personally, I think David Rose was a fantastic composer. Check this out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZV7ZVQz6h8

And then, I can't forget these...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQyUn2mCKtg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bIzXFzRADg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBXb_6-2zOw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK2soJtoRT8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y10VEkyKd3w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbUqnxrB2Oc and then this version... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcOuW4aXtGc

Some of these are obviously not the best quality. I have VHS tapes that are better than this! But, you get the idea...I remember all of these!

And how about this one from the 60's and early 70's...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af1h4ibpKJA (I have the 45' of a full version of this!)

And how about this one from the 70's...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihKT9Qpu0Ss

A couple from the 80's...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_GxXRbSFDg And here's the full version, which you can find on Gloria Loring's LP, "A Shot In The Dark", which I have... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd6wEeKjbqg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DouX9Ubw-Xw (I have a 45' of the full theme by Mike Post!)

And from the 90's...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDOrOMuo-9o
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9i0hiuZtqQ

And here is one of the MOST HAUNTING TV THEMES OF ALL TIME...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7d0Lm_31BE

And if you're really a TV Master, as someone so succinctly put earlier  , you will remember these...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCF7Dnov8vA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ABX2-4RTrY

Hey, hey, hey... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au5cUpUT2ig ... I don't forget NOTHIN'! And I've got an LP by this guy, too...AND HIS JUNKYARD BAND!

And then, there's...Uh Oh...Somebody's at the door...I guess I was...

I remember that one. In the UK it was shown on TV and dubbed into English, and called "The Aeronauts". its the same era as "Belle & Sebastian", "White Horses" , "Robinson Crusoe" , "The Flashing Blade" (Le Chevalier Tempête) and of course "Hergé's Adventures of Tintin". Happy days.

It wasn't written for the show but Warren Zevon's Even A Dog Can Shake Hands was used as the theme for Action, a corrosive little shoe that didn't last long about a movie producer played by Jay Mohr.
Great show.

Big "Cold Case" fan here, too, and I liked how every episode had to have just the right music to fit the era and year of the crime. You could also put in a case for "Law & Order: SVU", too...

I culled this one up out of my dank repository of tv music theme's. Lousy audio quality, but I enjoyed this show as a kid. Forgot about all the dizzying visual cut's looking like smart weapons honing in on N.Y. buildings. Real hard boiled, gritty, this is the city crime show.
N. Y. P. D. (just the facts ma'm).

EDIT: I posted before seeing that someone else had beat me to it - we must be onto something here!

My go-to piece when testing out new speakers is 'Nara' by E.S. Postumus. It's the theme song to "Cold Case". (The Spotify Premium version is awesome!)

The theme from Da Vinci's Inquest is my current favorite. I like the show's music enough to have bought the CD.

I don't know about favourites, but for purely nostalgic and sentimental reasons, I would go with these:

https://youtu.be/tkd-1hBK9fI

Magpie (Actually played by The Spencer Davis Group)

https://youtu.be/BNtrCmFE3OA

Rainbow

There are so many really, but I will also throw in this for good measure:

https://youtu.be/gsJ4pALlbEM

Starsky and Hutch
