~3500 LPs including 50 or so 12" 45RPM DJ singles. ~1600 CDs and SACDs. 200 or so LPs on cassette tape.

My first LP was bought in the winter of 1967. I still have it. I've never stopped buying LPs and bought quite a few when many were selling them and replacing them with "perfect sound forever".

Lovely isn't it? Don't sweat though, find the records you REALLY like and start from there...
All those guys (and gals) with 1000's upon 1000's of records don't have the time to listen to them all anyway

All those guys with "1000's upon 1000's of records" have been collecting for a long time. I bought my first LP in the winter of 1967/1968. I bought plenty when all the new adopters ditched their vinyl for "perfect sound forever".

I have been acquiring records since about 1980 with a 10-year break from the early nineties to early 2000s while I focused on career and family. My collection runs about 4,000 LPs…acquired about 1,500 pre-nineties and 2,500 post millennia.

I’m not an audiophile so I’m not obsessing on pristine condition but more completeness of catalog. I still prefer earliest pressings etc. but will accept reasonably lesser quality issues for completeness.

Its not so much that I will have time to listen to each and every LP but the idea that I have as wide a selection as possible for friends to discover. Makes for some fun listening sessions.

So we have 1000's upon 1000's of records. Sure, we may not have time to listen to them all (who does?), but I feel MUCH more comfortable knowing that they're there!! And when a friend asks me, "Do I have such-and-such a song?", I can say, "Why sure I do!! Would you like to hear the LP version, the 45', or maybe a rare remix???" Collect for 20-30-40 years, my friends, and then you might get there, too... To paraphrase that old potato chip commercial, "You can't play just one!"

It doesn't really matter where you start, but given time, I promise you, you WILL become addicted!! Ashford & Simpson may have "found a cure", but when it comes to vinyl addiction, I haven't!! :D

About 17,000+ lp's, 500 45's & 200 78's.
I'm finally slowing down on my lp purchases. Not enough years left in me to listen to them all.

IF you want to get rid of some I'll drive down there to pick them up! :D

I guess my collection is small compared to many people here. I have about 3000 records. Probably around 300 CDs.

I agree, but with the amount that there is a very good chance that I just might have a record that was mentioned on one of these forums (fora?).

I have been known to buy a record just for one track so overall condition does not mean so much to me as long as "my" track appears to be good.

Give away my children! I'm actually hoping, given the number of records I have I'll actually live to 100 so that I may listen to them all.

I've got 12,000+ LP's and more 45's than I care to count, and I say...YOU NEED help, BROTHER! And if you ever find a shrink that can cure you of your love for music, let me know. I'll be right there with ya!!

I have around 1200 items, including vinyl records and CDs. I'm in the process of cataloguing my collection on Discogs, and so far I've entered roughly 80% of my collection:

Recently I've been weeding out the less interesting stuff to focus on quality funk/fusion/prog for the most part. The count is roughly 250 LP's
