An “in the round” live-in-studio performance of side one of Tubular Bells was taped for the BBC program Second House on November 30th, 1973 and aired on December 1. Taking part in this performance are Oldfield himself on bass and acoustic guitar, his brother Terry on flute, Fred Frith (and other members of Henry Cow), Gong’s Pierre Moerlen and Steve Hillage, Tubular Bells co-producer Tom Newman, Mike Ratledge and Karl Jenkins of the Soft Machine, Rolling Stone Mick Taylor and others. (Vivian Stanshall, in his role as the MC, is present, reading off the list of instruments at the end of the first movement in his plummy voice, but, sadly is not captured well on camera).

Oldfield has returned to his most famous work time and again over the decades. A newly remastered version of the original Tubular Bells album came out in 2009 that includes this video (in great quality) and a superb 5.1 DVD-A surround mix of the piece.

Yeah he's never going to get what is in his head out into the world. It's fascinating though. He's currently working on Tubular Bells 4!

Absolutely fascinating, just watched it through. I never knew of the Branson connection and the struggle of Mike Oldfield. Thanks for posting 8)

No, I'm not going to drag my copy out just yet - maybe in another 10 years

I think they call it "saturation point "...
I have many of those (the Beatles, for one, as I loaded my 6-disc cassette with the Red , Blue, and Past Masters...going out to brother's house I soon found I was NOT in a Beatles mood that day...until something heavier came on...shoulda put Revolver and Love in...)
Bending the ankle is bad enough, but wrapping a bone with tendon...glad to here recovery is in the positive! [-o< =D>
(This response was to the foot injury post earlier...sorry for the timing...)
ccane...can't wait to see the video when I get home!

The Mothers Of Invention - Burnt Weeny Sandwich (2018 Reissue)
47631

I've looking at getting Mothers Of Invention/Zappa albums for years(decades) but hadn't! This had been on one of my amazon wish lists for years, and the price dropped below £10.

A bunch of $1 finds at the local used stuff store. Weird but all good stuff. All discs in mint or near mint condition.

wb...that 24 Groovy Greats looks like a great all around pop LP...I like how the labels are àll represented...the Four Seasons' label looks like it says Roulette, yeah? (Sorry, kinda fuzzy...) Didn't know they were on that one...I'd seen on Discogs they were on Epic early on and Spanish Lace was an early song... must've missed the Roulette listing...I saw it awhile back...
The rest of your haul is pretty cool, too.
Nice grabs!

It actually is pretty good. Just put it on and let it go, you have your own 1960’s AM radio station right there.

The record is funny, there are no cue zones between songs, just one long groove.
