I haven't walked into a record store--I mean an actual record store--in at least 25 years. Then a shop opened up last year right around the corner from American Audiophile in Lynbrook.

I bought three records today, all in the same package. Welcome Back is one of my favorite live albums of all time. This copy has some edge wear, some ring wear, but the spine is surprisingly solid. The original triple gatefold is usually trashed...I ought to know since I destroyed my copies as I kid. I played this album constantly.

The original inner sleeves look very crisp, not suffering from 'torpedo drop' damage that would've rendered them to the garbage a long time ago. And the vinyl looks very close to NM- despite the smudges here and there. Dead wax would indicate a George Piros cut. It will be nice to clean these up good and have a listen.

Ten bucks. Not too bad.

I found what appears to be a very clean copy of the torture test today for $6. I'm almost afraid to play it.

This particular cut of the recording is very 'hot' and the canon explosions can be very difficult for a cartridge/tonearm to playback. Hence the torture of trying to get it to playback. Watch the cart when it get there - it jumps around due to the modulation of the groove.

Ok. Thanks. I kinda figured something like that but wasn't sure.

It played beautifully at just below normal listening level. (as a precaution) Near mint I think. Very nice.

It was yesterday, technically, but I am just lilstening while working around the house today. I just found out about a place called Jupiter Records in Wilmington, Delaware. Younger owner/proprietor but knowledgeable and charismatic. We joked about my weird taste. I really only like DIO Black Sabbath. Not a big Zepplin fan. I liked Missing Persons and The Motels. But, I picked up a few good ones and prices are reasonable. All in all, I like the place.

The Best Of The Guess Who
Led Zeppelin - Presence
Crack The Sky - Animal Notes
Van Halen - Diver Down
Heart - Dog And Butterfly
Spys - self titled
UFO - Lights Out
CCR - Bayou Country
Nick Gilder - City Nights
Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna
j. Geils Band - Bloodshot

All VG+ or better for 64 dollars. Having a good day. LOL

Now, those are MY kind of records there, my friend! If you like that kind of 70's jazz, might I recommend some Lonnie Liston Smith, Bob James, Wilbert Longmire and Dexter Wansel, too? :-k

Ronnie Laws, Dave Grusin, Alphonse Mouzon, George Benson, Larry Carlton and Spyro Gyra are also favorites!

For example...

I dedicate that one to my own mother, who has a birthday today.... =D>

By the way, Lee Ritenour, Herbie Hancock and Hubert Laws all appear on that one! :D
