The Beatles "White" album question

Post by LicoricePizza » 06 Nov 2010 12:55

Does anyone know what low serial numbers are for this particular LP set? My copy begins with a capital A followed by seven numerals. Just curious.

Accoding to 'Record Collector' Rare Record Price Guide 2010 (UK), there are price breaks at 0001000 and 0010000 numbers. Elsewhere on the web, the A prefix is said to be a US cover printer specific mark, so don't know how this affects things. But i believe all numbered copies are 1st edition, so if in great condition and complete are worth hanging on to. But that wouldn't stop me from playing and enjoying it, unless the number is below 1000 and condition is mint or something !

I recently saw a copy on ebay that was number 000000. There were enough pictures of the vinyl and the stamped matrix numbers to make me think this was genuine, not a bootleg. The auction was withdrawn midway though and I have no idea why. Perhaps massive offers elsehwere, who knows?

My copy is numbered, but was bought new by my Dad in the early 70's, not at time of release - still has the poster and photos which is good.

In my opinion, the best Beatles LP easily - love it!

beatles white Numbered editions.......

It's funny I'm just fresh off of some research. One thing I found out isss, they made a zillion of these. By that I mean each plant made approximately 3,000,000, give or take a Million. If I understood correctly there were 12 plants alone in the US, not counting every where else, you get the picture. Granted 42 years, most are trashed ,thrown out etc. A true first pressing has a number 1,000,000 downward 1968 and 3,5000,000 pressed 1971...then the numbers ceased. FWIW I have a copy from Brazil Mono #750,... with the tissue paper photo dividers that sounds WAAAAAY different from the stereo. although that's an entirely different issue!! 8)

Post by daveb » 06 Nov 2010 20:56

It.s worth something, just try selling and you'll find out how much. If you obviously find the right buyer...... you know the rest. What is your number???, the lower the better.... ENJOY!!!

Accoding to 'Record Collector' Rare Record Price Guide 2010 (UK), £1000+ in NM, stereo or mono. I'm no expert though. The mono is a different mix, might even add.

I was watching one of these on ebay a couple of weeks ago, just out of curiosity. It was mono, no. 0000032, and went for over £1700.

Holy thread revival Batman!!

Found an interesting link to an artist that collects numbered copies of the Beatles 'White Album' any condition, at the time of writing he has 2465 copies. . . =D>

Displayed in #order as an Art installation, he enjoys the more used condition especially graffiti and comments, don't get too excited about moving your copy on, he pays very little for them [-X
