Perhaps, then, we should view Dark Side Of The Moon as the Volkswagen of music neither good nor bad just some music to play because it's there.
Personally when I first heard DSOTM in mid 70's I went and bought it as soon as I could and I've played it that many times I don't want to hear it again!

Slowly ripping the various pressings of DSOTM to compare. Still waiting for the first A2/B2 solid blue prism pressing from the UK, 1973 to arrive to use it as a baseline. Currently, I've managed to rip pressings: US 1973, UK 1974, German 1973, Sweden, 1973, Japan 1973, 30th Anniversay issue, pressings and a CD 2011 re-master. :)

So far: fraction of opening songs of DSOTM, sound footprint comparison: The Japanese pressing is by far the 'hottest' and it's immediately apparent in the sound quality. The recorded files were made on a DUAL CS-7000; Ortofon Omega; Kenwood receiver KR-7050; MacBook Pro; Apple Soundtrack. all settings the same for all.

So, finally the first pressing has arrived. Looking forward to listening and to comparing to the various other pressings I've been listening to... :D

The 180g reissue is good.

A decent copy of an original is going to cost a lot more than you will gain in musicality over that.

IMO.

I have the 2011 re-mastered version and it is very good.
It cost me $50 which is probably the most I have ever spent for one album.
Is it worth 50? My other copy that cost $8 and was issued in probably 1980 or so is pretty good too. It is simply a well produced/mastered album in my opinion and if you have limited funds, I might put it into some other album where re-mastering really, really enhanced the sound.

I would go with a really nice original pressing from 1973. You should be able to find them for a decent price on eBay. You'll pay a little more if you want the posters and stickers though.

I actually got a brand new 180 gram copy off of EBay for about $20. But what was crazy is that it came to me from Amazon. I guess the seller has some volume arrangement with Amazon but it's my best album. Stickers and poster too..

The 30th anniversary is my favourite, the remastered version doesn't do it for me.

If you are not overly familiar with this album then the remaster will do. :D

Of course if you could get an early pressing....

Sounds like it was drop shipped. Good price if so.

I just got the original german version with posters and pyramidcards (not stickers) for 23€. It has writing on cover but plays nicely.

I'm going to try and get a 1973 UK pressing matrix B3 if I can find a good copy at the right price.
