I quite like Turn Of The Cards and Live at Carnegie Hall but recommend all their stuff (including the Mk1 band) up to A Song for All Seasons. Halsam's range is fantastic and a voice I can listen to all day. The other album I posted - Out Of The Mist - by Illusion is comprised of most of the original line up from Mk1 and is recommended as well. We were fortunate enough to have seen Mk2 back up Al DiMeola back in the day.

Just listening to Al Di Meola now, quite a different album, big production as you might expect with Phil Collins on drums. . . I like it :D

The 60s were a fertile time for experimental music and cross pollination of genres. This '69 release - the first for Renaissance - is a fantastic melding of classical baroque styling with rock and one the band would carry into the next decade. Perhaps the highlight is Islands, beautifully sung by Jane Relf, almost angelic.

Between Focus and Ekseption, this is an exceptional album, very baroque and delicate. A must for lovers of the more classical side of the progressive rock. But even when this Bach inspired music wouldn't be your cup of tea, or if you don't like the vintage sounds, you must hear virtuoso Rick Van Der Linden playing. His keyboards skill is just amazing.
This 3-piece in my mind blew ELP out of its own native waters! Rick Van Der Linden is a criminally underrated keyboard maestro with more than a few good ideas. And besides who else do you know that could artfully combine Bix Biederbecke and JS Bach? The "Birds Suite" is a treat (and bonus points for including the Owl at the 3:39 mark, they're my favorite birds!)!
