i have about 1500 and would like to reduce it down to 1000 or less. I've made a list of about 300 I could live without. Many of them are ones I was given and not really into the artists.

I have about 3,000 Lp's, about 200 singles (never really been a 7" collector)

The destruction of a bookcase holding about 500 records brought me down to about 750.

Edit: missing word.
The records were destroyed as well? What in the world happened?

Thank you for asking.
Everything was destroyed: records and autographed books.
Although it's going on two years, I can't discuss it. I have not faced that list, yet. Apologies.

I have one three foot wide shelf. When it gets full I go through it and remove anything I don’t actively listen to. Every time I go record shopping I look for one or two records I can remove. I could open another three foot shelf, but I already have a CD collection of 2000+ CD’s that all reside on a media server now, don’t need a massive record collection. I plumb the depths of the bargain bins and find some really interesting things to listen to. Some are revelations (ELP’s first album), others are not so great like the “Hard Swingin Jazz for Bach Buffs” I’m listening to right now. It’s got a few interesting pieces, others are forced and don’t work.

Update.
The above numbers are wrong. The stacks were counted yesterday. An identical bookcase only holds about 400, making the current total 675.
My apologies.
Cheers!

Have you thought about ripping any of your LP's?

And if any of you guys believe him, I've got 1,000 acres of ocean front property in Arizona to sell you...

Hey, there's nothing wrong with admitting you have a big collection...I can't be the ONLY one here! :)

Of course, the problem could be that some don't actually KNOW how many they have (one could estimate, though...), which was why I started my catalogue in the first place...I wanted to KNOW before the collection got TOO out of control...

I saw the writing on the wall long ago. There was a time when I had three boxes of 3x5 file cards cataloging my music collection. After that, I switched to PFS First Choice (office type suite) when I bought my first PC. In May 1993 while going to school and working in a computer shop I was able to buy an early version of MS Access for the dealer price.

I wrote a Database using VB. I still use that same engine although its been tweaked and modified over the years. All of my collection is in it and listed in some detail.

For me, how many I have is less important than what I have.

OTOH: I've winnowed my LP collection down to ~1K from a maximum of 3.5K+.

Don't believe him Vinyl Master, I've seen him looking at outside storage. He even has his own space at the Post Office for his deliveries of vinyl.

I honestly don’t know. I think it’s around 500 or so. Now, do we count the individual discs or do double/triple/multi sets count as one?

As I understand, one title equal as one disc (even if it's a double, triple or box contain 8 LPs)....

Wow, where the heck do you guys find storage space for the stuff? I got 300 in my apartment and I feel like it's on every shelf and counter and floor space...
