New Thelonius Monk Recording Available

Post by Tonybro » 26 Jul 2018 14:35

Guys,

Gearbox Records in the UK have acquired some unreleased recordings of Thelonius Monk recorded live in Copenhagen in 1963!

Limited to 500 copies only - all analogue using their in-house all analogue system.

More details here. I've ordered mine already. :-)

Guess I'm not too late. I ordered it. Shipping is only £8.00 (about $10) to the states. Hopefully it survives the trip.

only 500 being pressed and 4 people on here over a 3 week period have managed to order one. Given the way new releases sell out almost instantly this is very odd, unless the OP is the only person who spotted the webpage?

Speaking for myself, I've never heard of Gearbox Records and the only time I search across the pond and down under is when I can't find a particular record here. I suppose, out of curiosity, that one could call Gearbox and ask them how many they've sold :-k

I believe they are a very small outfit without a big marketing budget and specialise in all-analogue productions.

I also have the Applewood Road album they did last year and that is excellent.

its just odd that one email to Fremer and the whole 500 would sell in a minute. I'm not in the market for £40 albums otherwise I'd grab a copy.

Yes, it sounds amazing (and I'm not a big Jazz fan)!

The pressing is deadly quiet and of really high quality.

It is from 1963.

It is an outstanding piece of restoration work and pressing.

Glad you like it.

Back of the queue at no. 437 but at least you were in the queue! :D

Thanks again for letting us know about this =D> Was well worth the wait.
As for the price, I spent about the same on The Beatles "Revolver" album as I specifically wanted the ST2576 pressing and not some re-issue. Some things are worth the extra $, £, € :D

I don't think the price is that much when you consider AAA and limited edition and then quality of the finished product. Some people forget what we used to pay for records and CDs in the 70s/80s/90s.
Records are going to be more expensive as it is a niche market, but in perspective not that much more than we used to spend.
