Dual Golden One Tonearm lifting during play

Postby stephen ash » 18 May 2017 10:11

Hi I am new to the forum and have just ventured back into the world of turntables. I just purchased a Dual Golden One a few weeks ago and it was running fine until last night when for some reason during a disc playing the tonearm lifted off the groove and stopped playing...any thoughts out there why this occurred..it is bugging the life out of me..cheers in advance

Hi Stephen,

First thing to do is download the owner and service manuals available on this site.
Just click on the "Library" on top left of this page or consult the "Reviews" over your Dual model.
Looks like your issue was quite common, but my personal knowledge of these models is somewhat limited (electronic speed control), my Duals are still the idler fully mechanical ones.
I'm sure Klaus or another of our Dual specialists will chime in, but it is always best to have a maximum of doc on hand.
Good luck,

Cheers,

Hugh.

Basic question because we are blind and don't know how versed you are at turntable setup....have you done basic setup and balanced the tonearm and dialed in the proper VTF (vertical tracking force)?

Yeah I think it is tracking fine ,using Ortofon OM1O have had no problems over the last few days(fingers crossed)Someone had suggested the tonearm would lift if there was a power surge. I think I will get somebody who is more expert than myself to look at how I have setup the arm

Thank you for your feedback

I believe this behavior is due to the platter speed being out of the designed range. When the microprocessor detects that the platter speed is incorrect, it raises the tonearm. I would check the belt to make sure it is not worn or loose. If so, you will need a replacement belt. Try cleaning the belt with a cotton ball or wipe moistened with alcohol. Also clean the motor pulley and the rim of the platter around which the belt fits. Be careful not to drip alcohol into the motor when cleaning the pulley. Be careful when removing, handling and reinstalling the platter.

Hope this helps.
