Hi all,

I picked up an excellent Dual 1219 few weeks ago at a local garage sale with very fair price. It even comes with M91ed cartridge and the original Hi-Track stylus.

Fix up few things and ready to go except the original pulley was 50Hz version and now is awaiting 60Hz pulley from a member in Turkey in so-called pulley exchange program...

BTW, I cannot find a similar wood case for this Dual 1219 anywhere online. Any one has any idea who made this wood case? I have a feeling this unit is related to US army.

This type of plinth is referred to as a Breadbox Base. There were several suppliers for Dual plinths. IIRC, this on was made by Noresco. You don't find many of these and could be the most rare of the plinths. Yours looks to be in good shape, and it would be worth keeping.

Hi,
Correction- this is not a Noresco plinth, I assure you, but most likely some other OEM manufacturer. The stickers on the turntable will tell you which country the TT was sent to first and then the plinth / OEM manufacturer might be found subsequently by other sticker inside the plinth.

If you follow the Dual threads you know I recently purchased a 1219 in the original box and a bunch of goodies including a Shure M91ED with a Hi-Track stylus. Thanks to this fine site and the very helpful members this beauty is singing away as I type. The wealth of knowledge and experience coupled with the willingness to help noobs like me is awesome. I am really enjoying this fine turntable and look forward to hours of enjoyment. Here's a quick couple of pics of my 1219 on her DIY plinth.

That is a really beautiful looking 1219, and the plinth looks gorgeous too! 8)

The Shure M91ED is also a great sounding and underrated cartridge and a favorite of those of us who appreciate it.

New to the forum. Appreciate all the great information!

I have just acquired a 1229 with one issue. Will not run slow enough. I am thinking it has a 50hz motor pulley. Going by the picture can anybody tell me if this is 50hz or 60hz motor pulley?

Hi,
Most likely a 50 Hertz pulley:

Thanks Dualcan. In case there is confusion in the future see drawing of 50hz pulley below.

Now you lot. You know how awful the M91-ED really is, so what you have to do is send them to me for careful disposal :D

S'alright really, for whatever reason and using the 1229 as the deck, the 91-ED always sounded better than the 75-ED set up identically. Don't know why, as the two were mechanically identical, but I'm sure I'm not wrong ;)

Hi Klaus,

If you could provide dimensions for the 60hz pulley I could post a drawing as well.

Hi,
Since my old Starret is only in mm, I had no choice...
I had a tiny discrepancy in the two pulley step heights, but that must be due to the pitch angle which most likely skewed my measurement:

BTW, the rotor shaft is 4mm exactly so the pulleys bore hole must be 4mm clearance fit, I guess.
Thanks again,
k

The cover on my 1219 has some cracks, where it enters the plinth. I guess this is a common problem, the weight of the cover puts a lot of stress on that area.

I want to glue a piece of thin sheet metal onto that area, to both cover the cracks and reinforce it a bit. Now I'm trying to decide whether to leave the metal as it is, or to paint it black. I took some pictures of both silver and black, temporarily attached with tape.

What do you guys think?

The black looks better!

Don AKA The California Kid uses black plexiglass and has made an art of this fix. 8)

I lift my cover off when playing rather than using the hinge in order to prevent cracks or making them worse.
