Thanks. The old Sherwood's are great receivers. I've always had a soft spot for them. :)

Just joined this fabulous and informative site and as my first post I'd like to ask for input on what may very well be the first of a long list of silly questions .... forgive me . I recently uncovered my long forgotten Dual 1229Q turntable . Packed away and stored in the attic of my parents home it only came to light after my mother passed away . I've sent it out to have it revived . Now with the mechanics addressed I would once again take pride in ownership as you all do and focus on the cosmetics . And now for that aforementioned silly question ......
What would be the best way to spiff up the Installation Plate's surface ? Item 136 in Replacement Parts Guide , Part # 233 734 .

Hi,
This is my 1229, I think I went too far with the 70s look, and the tool storage did not ended up the way I wanted so I think this will be V1 :-), still have to polish it a little bit.

It sounds really nice although I think I can hear a little bit the platter.

Your new plinth looks really beautiful! =D>

What type of wood did you use, and can you fit a dust cover on it?

Thanks a lot, still battling with some issues.
Tinkaroo, the outside is honduran mahogany, around 1 inch tick, the inside is plywood and cork.
I had one idea for dust cover, but since I started to build the base, the location of the table have changed so I need something more protective now. As it is right now is not possible to put a cover, the version 2 of the top plate should make space for one (hopefully),

I tried to stuff an Emotiva XPS-1 phone stage inside, but failed :-(

I picked up an excellent Dual 1219 few weeks ago at a local garage sale with very fair price. It even comes with M91ed cartridge and the original Hi-Track stylus.

Fix up few things and ready to go except the original pulley was 50Hz version and now is awaiting 60Hz pulley from a member in Turkey in so-called pulley exchange program...

Sean
Hi Sean,

could You please adress me to afore mentioned pulley exchange program? I have 60Hz version and would like to exchange it for a 50Hz version.

Anybody interested in such exchange is welcomed to make me an offer.

Thanks in advance.

AT95E????????????

You need a 540 or higher in this deck sir!! i think you'd be surprised if you can go that far - use the 95E in a second carrier for singles!

The motor wires MUST be properly dressed so they don't touch anything. The motor shells must be firmly and evenly tight and I'd suggest one of those Russian idler wheels mentioned here a few days ago. i suspect the drive will be all but silent then...

Yes, we can't have any motors humming.
It might attract unworldly things over there in Rendlesham Forest.

This is my Dual 1229Q hooked up to my Kenwood KR-33 receiver playing Chuck Magione's Feels So Good LP.

A really lovely sounding combo with the Shure V15 Type III and Dynaco D20-XL speakers! =D>

I am mid-craziness. I purchased a 1219 to refurb for my brother-in-law for a Xmas gift. Liked it so much, I bought a second one for myself. So I have refurbed both, the one I am giving away had a plinth in better condition, so no work there. I simply cleaned/lubricated the mechanics, mounted a new AT-3600L cartridge (have a few on hand), and balanced the tonearm. Sounds really good running through a simple integrated with built-in phono stage.

The second one needed a new plinth built, so I rebuilt almost exactly the same plinth from scratch. Same clean/lubrication effort, but this one included doing the motor bearings. I mounted a Shure V15 III with original stylus and wow does it sound great. I am running it into a big Magnum Dynalab amplifier through the ever popular Schiit Mani phono stage. Last night was the first real listening event. We liked it, we then played it with the Sillpoints weight and liked it more. Should note the Sillpoints weight cost more than the table, cart and phono stage combined... Fantastic value on this table.

Will post some pictures and further updates this week. I also have a Denon DL-110 to try on this table. I will also get some feedback post Dec 25th from my BIL on how he likes it. He has a bigger NAD amp with B&W speakers, so should sound great. He can upgrade the cart if he wants. Using the Dual alignment gauge has been easy and sounds good.
