in addition to the 1129/1219 that this thread is about - and then the 1225 just mentioned, there seems to be other similar models - 1224/1226 - i see different tonearms, but this suggests they are all basically similar;
Dual did not built any cheap, meaning poorly built, units under the Steidinger regime roughly from 1920 till 1981. The difference from one model to the next is simply evolution and additional features added to the basic unit for the most part.
some differences found in a search-
The 1224 (two pole motor)/ 1225 (four pole) was the immediate successor to the 1214 (2pole)/ 1214 hifi (four pole motor).
The 1214's have three speeds and a pre-selectable anti skate adjustment under deck for conical stylus tracking force of 2, 4 and 6 pond tracking. The tonearm's horizontal bearings are fixed with two sets of (larger surfaced) ball bearing/races.
The 1224/5 have 2 speeds and an infinitely adjustable anti skate adjuster top side of chassis for both conical and spherical styli. The tonearm's horizontal bearings have a smaller footprint and are spring loaded which gives this arm an improved friction performance. Vertical bearings are the same for all units.
The platters, idler wheels and the two classes of motors for each set are identical in performance if comparing 2 pole 1214 versus 2 pole 1225 and the same comparing the 4 pole variants.
The headshells (TK14/24) are identical for all the units.
.

One major difference I seemed to have found is the 1225 is LIGHT platter version

Thanks VM for this video.

Watched every bit of it and truly disappointed by their restoration honestly, if this is a "restoration".

I've sent so many tables to Dualcan and his work is 1000 time better; no even comparable.

IMO, Dualcan is a close to "new" restoration where 12voltvids is "good enough".

Guys, be careful to who you're sending your tables for restoration!

VM, just to make it clear, nothing against you my friend, I know you're just reporting what you're seeing.

My two cents only

I agree Dual Jean, that video isn't really a "proper restore", simply put, the guy's missing multiple points that really need addressing if the ultimate performance and reliability are to be had from these turntables.
Perhaps I'm just too "picky" or obsessive, but I've serviced enough changers/turntables to know better.
I guess a 45 minute "hurry up" job is more "internet video friendly", but it takes me quite a few hours to do one up.
Not to mention afterwards a thorough testing and adjustment procedure before it finally passes my stringent requirements. LOL.
They've never come back, never a complaint.

Here are my personal use machines. A 1229q, 1219, and a pair of 1229s. I love them all, but the 1219 is my favorite with the open front ua base. I prefer the look of the open front European bases, as you can see, but the UA version is made a little better. I have a thing for those hinged dust covers.

What a beautiful collection of Dual turntables you have there windywatchguy! 8)

Those hinged dust covers are very hard to find these days, more so than hens teeth!

I have a 1229 with the flip down front and a 1229Q with the one piece Noresco built base which is pretty nice and well built with wood veneer, compared to those that came later on some of the mid 70s Duals.

I really love your vintage receivers too! =D>

Thanks, Tink. There are a lot of beautiful machines in this thread. My problem is that I usually buy the table to repair and sell, but when it's time to sell, I need "one more 1229." My wife is very understanding....like most wives here, I'm sure.

AND thanks to the guy who shared the video of the quick and dirty service on the 1225. He did what he wanted to do to make it run, and it was effective. Now someone can enjoy the machine. I like to make them operate so they can be enjoyed. These aren't rare artifacts, and they are durable. Get in there and fix them. Just try to keep an eye on small parts in order to have them when you need them. In my experience (75-100 12xx series Duals) I find that anyone with a modicum of mechanical aptitude can repair most issues. Don't be afraid to start taking things apart. Maybe take photos before to help assembly later. If you run into trouble, asks the experts here. There seem to be many friendly folks who like to talk turntables.

When I was a child my father used to fix anything that needed repair including old clocks, so I learned a lot by watching and listening to him about tackling some of these projects.

Now we are fortunate to be able to share advice, manuals thanks to VE and information in order to keep these fine machines going. I often see people criticizing Duals for being automatics, but if properly serviced they are really amazing machines. I love the fact that they are automatics, and that is also part of their charm. 8)

Any site like this is only as good as it's members and their willingness to share our knowledge, and love of audio and music with each other.

I totally agree re automatics. I just added to another thread that I considered a Sansui 838 recently...beautiful machine...maybe a bit too modern-looking. It was nearly perfect and worked perfectly, but I like being able to leave the room and know my stylus isn't dragging endlessly around the runout on the LP. Anyone who likes mechanical things like watches and other complicated mechanisms surely likes the auto tables. They are similar in their machinations.

A very good choice indeed! =D>

I have both a 1229 and a 1229Q and it is one of the best models of Dual. A great performer and built to last.

Has it been serviced at all?

If not then it will need a bit of cleaning, fresh lubrication and perhaps a new steuerpimpel and single/multi sleeve. You will want to make sure the single/multi sleeve is attended to before adjusting the single/multi selector switch just to be safe.
