So how does one open up a 1245?

I see three screws on there, I have tried tilting it as suggested in the first post but the base just will not lift up. Do I need to somehow do all three at once?

Here is where I am at:

I just cannot get the thing open.

Loosen/slant the right one first, lift right side of TT over base, then loosen/slant the rear srew, lift up rear. and lastly the front screw.

That worked. Lifting up the one on the right let me look under the table and I saw how it was secured, it allowed me to get them all up.

Now if only I had never done this maybe it would all still be working..

Something rolling around inside a Dual turntable base can sometimes yield a hidden treasure. But steuerpimpels and spindles are likely candidates. I've found coins, pens/pencils, cartridge pieces, loose screws.

I've just discovered this method of opening a Dual 721: It will work using a Lincoln penny, as well as a German coin!

Don: *lol* A 2011 penny in an original Dual pic from 1977 - those Dual guys really were quite a bit ahead of time... ;)

P.S.: Did you do the photoshopping yourself?

P.P.S.: That "German coin" would have been our trusty, old 10 Pfennig coin (100 Pfennig = 1 Mark), btw - which we used to have until the Euro took over in 2002... And as one could guess from the thumbnail to penny size ratio, the 10 Pfennig coin is a good bit larger than a US penny. :)

Has anyone actually opened a 714Q? None of this seems to work for me. :(

Ymer: Basically it's the same as usual, just that you'll first have to screw off the plate the strain reliefs of the power and phono cables reside on and then remove that plate. And then, after the usual trick with the transport lock screws, you can carefully (!) lift the chassis out of the plinth, because of course you'll still have to disconnect the cables that go to the controls on the front plate.

Greetings from Munich!

Hi Jas...Many thanks for the extremely well put answer including graphics.....as it happens I did discover this in the end by trial 'n error, took hours though !....the last bolt can be a bit of a bitch as you have to ensure the other two don't slip back into the slots....nice one, and THANKS AGAIN...Lotsa-luck....Myke.

Any suggestions for removing the top plastic piece of the base under the tonearm on a CS 530 to expose the steuerpimpel? The manual isn't very instructive.

Thanks for the info. I'm new to the forum and this is the first thing I needed to know. I have a CS-502. :)

Not overly hopeful that anyone has an answer for this since it went unanswered for so many years... but i just got an old 506 and i need to get into it to check the RCA feeds, belt condition, etc.

I've got the transport bolts loosened, counterweight off, etc. But can't figure out how the center pin is removed so I can take off the platter...

Actually, i just found the answer on the audiokarma forums. Turns out the manuals for these 506s are all screwed up. There are 3 or 4 ideas as to how to get the platter off, but the only way that worked for my machine was to simply push down on the center chrome ring around the pin, and turn 90 degrees counter clockwise.

Then the whole platter lifts up easy as pie.
