721 start lever rotates

Post by joea » 05 Oct 2019 03:43

721 start lever rotates freely. From service manual and casual inspection I cannot determine what bits are broken or missing. Are there any picture things i can lok at?

So, it looks as if, maybe, possibly, that Part 196, is missing and may be all that is missing. One might dream.

Anyway, does anyone know of a reliable source for a well built reproduction? I do see one on Ebay, from Germany, but seems a bit pricey, with shipping and all. Actually, the manual shows that part as number 237 378 not 237 278, which also gives me pause.

Seems like Dual Fred has some at a reasonable cost. Search for it was a bit problematic.

Of course, it is OEM so likely to break easily. So, order two and attempt to reinforce one as shown in other posts bu Dualcan?

I've written and included pictures about start levers and repairing broken ones. Which are you talking about, part 74 (the lever itself) or the arm which goes underneath (part 196)? You seem to have the lever, so it must be disengaged from the arm. Is that missing completely, or just loose? The lever might be easier to obtain than this little arm.

196 is entirely missing. No bits were in the "roasting pan" or on the parts the lever connects to. Gives me pause.

The unit looks to be in nice condition, except for a bit of missing dust cover corner. Makes me wonder if the part was removed because there was something else wrong and deemed irreparable. But if that were the case, I doubt they would have replaced the associated nuts and washers.

I've not even attempted to power it on yet. Am I correct in assuming I can do so, with platter in place and the tone moving the tone arm to record position it should start and run? I guess I should actually read the user manual at this point, eh?

Organdonorparts can help in some cases and as I've said many times before in other threads, they have more parts than are listed, so worth a try if all else fails... They've been very helpful to me in the past!

I installed the one from DualFred and it works absolutely fine. Reasonable price, too.

If you want a copy instead, there is one on the bay right now:

I would trust Fred's though.
