Dual headshell keeper/box?

Post by GuidoK » 19 Sep 2019 18:18

For my SME style headshells I have a headshell box to keep my headshells and cartridges safe and clean.
I made it myself but there are multiple for sale too.
Like this (this is mine):
https://audio.home.xs4all.nl/zooi/draai ... /1-800.jpg

You see my dual tk-136 lying on the side there with a shure v15 in it. Not very convenient and safe.
As we speak I already have 3 TK-24 headshells so I need something to store them in safely.

Has anyone here ever made a headshell keeper specifically for Dual headshells?
I'm talking here about the TK-14/TK-24 style.
And what part of the headshell did you use to secure it?
Maybe something that fits in the top hole?
Or something that fits around the connectorside?

I'm sure I can come up with something myself, but maybe there are great ideas out there [-o< :D

Very nicely done! I think you may be the one to invent a method. There is not much to latch on to with the various Dual
headshell cartridge-holders (correct term) but maybe a two or three-point grip for each one could work. Be sure to keep us up to date with your progress. ~ D

Thats a good idea.
But I'm looking for something that fixes the dual cartridgecarriers in place.
Maybe I can combine the two

In the famous CK 20 plinth, the one with the fold-down front offering storage space for various Dual accessories, there's provision for storing two TK-14 cartridge holders, fixed in place in a kind of clip-in or slip-in mount. I suppose it would be fairly simple to copy this design and DIY a cartridge box, provided one could obtain the measurements and dimensions from a CK 20. I don't have one unfortunately, so can't be of any help in that regard.

On the other hand, I think analoged's suggestion is a good, cheap and practical solution. It could be an idea to complement it with some sort of foam inserts to keep the cartridges from rattling around in their compartments...

Hi,
A couple of pics from my CK 20 1219 plinth for your info.
The spare carts fit exactly in the provided spaces in the front cover folding lid.
Very handy indeed!
Measurements approx 2.1 X 2.2 cm.
Hope this helps (food for thoughts),
Cheers,

Hugh

Oops! Sorry, the pics didn't want to come out!?
They are available on my personal gallery though.
Wonder what's wrong...

Yes, I agree with that wholeheartedly, analoged...So much so, I had to buy two of 'em! And maybe a third one the way I'm going! #-o Foam padding is a good idea, too...You could cut a few pieces of foam (18) the size of the individual square sections in the box, trace an outline around the headshells, and then cut that portion out of the middle of the foam with an X-Acto knife or something...

In saying that, maybe some type of clip (shortened alligator clamp, bulldog clip, etc. attached to a base somehow) that would latch on to the end of the Dual sled could work...Then again, maybe a 3-D fabrication of those sled holders Hugh is showing could work...What if they were upright (instead of laying flat) and held the sleds up off the ground just enough so that the 4 pins weren't touching the base of your cartridge box? I'm really surprised no one has thought of the perfect solution yet, but you could be the one, Guido...

Very nice solution for the other headshells, though... =D>

The slots from Hugh's case are a nice solution and I can see a way to do them with wood, perhaps. One wrinkle is that you would need at least two sizes for the 10XX and 12XX sleds.

Yes, though some sort of adjustable version might also be possible? Maybe a little too complicated to make, though...
