Remember when you were a kid...

Post by vinyl master » 05 Jul 2018 07:01

When I was a kid, I used to collect a lot of things...I'd go to flea markets, garage sales and thrift shops...Of course, I had to have souvenirs from the various trips our family went on...So along with records (which I was exposed to early on) and the players to play them on, I collected things like model trains, stamps, postcards, seashells, rocks, coins, leaves, stickers, baseball cards, old wine corks, snow globes, comic strip paperbacks, books of poetry, unusual tins and all sorts of unusual stuff...I think it's important to encourage a kid's love of collecting, as it fosters a better understanding of the world and it's history and it gives kids a chance to learn all they can about their particular hobby...Sometimes, in the case of a friend of mine who collected Coke bottles, he ended up working for Coca-Cola! So, these "passing pursuits" can, on occasion, lead to lifetime employment and long careers...Even if they don't, they can lead young people to be more curious about the world around them and that curiosity that parlay itself into other things...In any case, I recently mentioned 12-year old Malachi Liu, a young man (and fanatical record collector) who Michael Fremer has been championing...Take a look for yourself...

Kids like young Malachi bode well for our hobby, but he is not the only young collector of note...Check out these very enthusiastic young collectors...

And finally, we're back to one more young record collector...9-year old Lux here!

These are all but a few examples of extraordinary young collectors...There are probably many more young collectors and enthusiasts out there, but maybe some of you guys can share what you collected as a kid...Do you STILL collect those things today? :-k
