Funny speakers made with recycled tires

Post by joedisco » 14 Feb 2020 07:17

What do you think about this?
Are these speakers only good to make loud noise?
Or do you think there could be some quality sound out of them? (providing you use quality drivers and crossovers, of course)
I praise the recycling issue.
But what about sound quality?
Are these just for crazy teenage parties making super loud noise with boom boom bass?
Is there any acoustic merit using rubber as cabinet?
I just wonder.
Funny :D

I like the idea to add rattling chain as treble enhancer(first picture)

I believe it's supposed to be more of an artistic endeavor than a serious audio design.

That looks like a Marantz receiver in the corner of the last photo.

I wonder what sounds better between bias plies and steel belted radials? :drawing:

I wonder if knobby tires enhance the bass notes......I doubt the turntable base is all that stable either. The receiver does look like a Marantz I have (2265B). Very clever use of old tires though.

I don't know about the sound quality of those speakers...I would tread carefully with those! [-X

By the way, does your turntable have to have a "steel belt" and "radial tonearm" to use them??? :-k

All kidding aside, though...I must say it is STILL a very clever way to repurpose those, other than the following ideas...

And anything that reduces our landfill waste, even just for fun, is OK in my book... :D

3rd world countries are so much more resourceful when it comes to using what they have on hand. Tire Sole sandals have been around for ages. Same as walls made from tires.
As for the bass. If the driver is stiff and the rear waves do not meet the front waves, you can get decent bass from and open baffle.
