EB101 Replacement arm?

Post by robsanderson » 21 Jun 2018 11:08

Are there any 'drop-in' replacement arms for the EB101?

I was rather hoping you'd get some useful replies to this, as I've been wondering the same thing. There's a document (you may have already seen) in the VE library for the EB101 called 'Fitting Alternative Tonearms'. It makes reference to using replacement arm mounting collars according to the arm you are fitting, but I've never seen one of these.

I did see an EB101 on eBay a while back fitted with a Rega arm - I think it was an RB250 - so I presume that's a viable option, although probably not much of an upgrade on the stock item.

Pivot to spindle is 213, no other arms are 213 so I'm guessing anything different will involve some level of bastardisation to the arm mount and possibly (though unlikely for a 1 or 2mm)the hole in the top plate.

True, but there are a few interesting ones that are close - Hadcock GH228, Naim Aro, Pro-Ject 9C, Syrinx LE2, Jelco SA750 are all + or - 1mm of that. Sadly I have no means to get hold of any of these to 'experiment'!

All of these have a pivot/spindle distance of 211/213 so should be doable.
Had an EB101 once with a Linn LVX.
