I will rewire it for sure, but I would still like to locate the bad place in the wiring, I was thinking it might be at the back of the tone arm where things move around the most. My problem is being impatient, I really like how good that left channel sounded and know it is going to be the most used of my turntables once it is all repaired. But in the meantime, I can do some thorough cleaning and restain the wood base and put on a good coat of wax. I do need to find an AR emblem as this is missing it. I can see where it used to be.

Also, I see these headshells, cartridge holders from a place called Pats on ebay, are they any good? They look like they were made with a 3D printer. Price is right but would like to know they work ok.

AR emblem replicas can be had on the auction site.

The new headshells are OK. I bought one and the nibs were not correct. Too wide, had to trim them to fit the tonearm. I believe others had the same experience. When I bought my original AR XA, replacement headshells were $2.00 directly from AR.

Yes, I bought my Dual in 71 at the PX in Wurzburg Germany. Brand new albums were $2 and replacement needles for it were 90Cents. I had to go off post to buy JCSS and it cost me 25 DMs, Deutchmarks, to get it. times do change. The HiFi club in Nuremberg would only special order AR stuff but they did have speakers every now and then if you were lucky enough to be there when they came in. All of it was pricey when you were making $250 or so per month and trying to see a bit of Europe and buy a nice camera to record it with. I just paid 7 bucks for a not so pristine Steppenwold album at the GW. Born to be wild.

What size AR emblem is correct? I found 3 different sizes on the bay.
Thanks

Measured mine at about 15/16" square. Black lettering.

Thanks, I will order one shortly in that size. Looks like it is just held on with glue or double stick tape.

I think double side tape. I bought a couple of replicas when I refurbished my AR4x speakers and tape was used. Both of my AR XA badges are original. I glued them back on after refinishing the wood.

Has anyone used the Best Audio injected molded headshell for the XA? Are they as good as they look?
Thanks

I bought one a couple of years ago. The nibs needed trimmed a bit to fit. It still doesn't seat quite all the way but it's adequate. I remember when you could buy the real thing from AR for $2 though and these repo's seem pricey to me.
