New member from Bulgaria with Rega Planet

Hello to all,

I'm a new member here in this forum. I'm a owner of two Rega turntables: Rega Planar 3 - which I sold last month so I can buy the older Planet. I've had many turntables before the Rega: many Duals, Sony, Technics, Siemens, Bang & Olufsen and others. Beleive me, there is nothing close from these brands like Rega :)

I like to make mods to my tables. On my Planar I change the legs with brass metal ones, change te bolts of the motor, lubricated the main bearing with ATF oil, chahnge the belt with red one and etc.

Now to the point. The Planer. As I have many nights in reading, I beleive that this turntable is from the first made by Rega. The tonearm is Acus Lustre GST-1. I have bought it with Ortofon cartridge VMS 30 MK2 in pretty good shape. The overall condition of the table is 9.5/10. For 45 years it's pretty decent I think :)

The first think was to clean it and lubricate the bearing. One of my friends made a 3mm acryl mat. In the main center I bought and install a O ring with inner diameter of 7.5mm and 1.5mm thick so the acryl mat do not bend from the 550g clamp. Now the acryl mat is make contact in 4 points with no problems at all! This made the old planet mechanism as good as any modern glass platter and the LP is stood still with no falls in the points where it is no planet below it. The mat hold the vinyl pretty well.

My friend made me a few 3mm acryl spacers for the tonearm, so I can regulate the VTA, but I'm very pleased with the sound at this point with 3mm higher vinyl positon than before and I won't make any changes and won't lift the tonearm.

That's for now :)

That looks very nice.
Does the Planet have a metal or plastic sub-platter, or is it all one unit?

Cheers,
Alec

I'm glad you like it :)

Nope, there is no subplater. It's all one unit.

Rega offer capable products, but it defeats credibility to claim those other brands offer nothing close. [-X
