Rega P2 2017 tonearm skipping

Post by Jorgitoarg » 19 Oct 2017 18:20

Hi,

I have a turntable Rega P2 2017, with very little use. Two months. From the first day, it presents a problem.
The turntable has the problem that on both new and used discs, the cartridge has a small skipping.
Usually this happens in the last track and in other vinyls from the third track.
First I had an Ortofon 2M Red and now I have changed it for a Grado Prestige Gold1.The weights are correct from 1.75g to 2.00g.
The tonearm setting is also correct.
Keep up with this same problem and I really do not know what it can be.
It is very new and from 0km, present this problem.
Could some one Help me?

Best Regards

Thank you very much

Sounds like it may be the "grado dance". Try putting a little mlre weight on top of the headshell ( tape a smalle coin there) and then rebalance the vtf with a scale. Very common problem, very easy solution.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.
I want to comment that it also happens with the Ortofon 2M Network, not only with the Grade Gold1.
Maybe it works out like you say, but what's the problem?

Many people have had skipping problems, some caused by fitting a new cartridge that was too light, and some caused by the Planar not being properly level. Check that it's level with a good quality spirit level.

To check the spirit level is ok,place it on a surface and see where the bubble lies. Now turn the level around 180 degrees, and if the spirit level is accurate the bubble will show the same reading as before. It doesn't then try another one.

Thank you, Garry
I'll try what you say.
I really do not know what it can be, since the tonearm is new. Almost without use.
This happens from the beginning and with several cartridges

Another query, if the cartridges were very light as this is solved?

Get the data for your cartridges to see how heavy they are compared to the Carbon which was fitted at the factory. If you Google Planar skipping, you should find some threads to read on other forums such as the Steve Hoffman forum.

The Planar 1 and 2 have a preset anti skate bias which makes it awkward to change cartridges, so read about it so you get a better understanding of what is happening.

First though, check that it's level properly sideways and back to front.

Got to get some sleep now! I'll be off here for a couple of days, so good luck in the meantime.

Check if head shell is parallel to vinyl surface.
Rega tonearm is set for the catridge of 14 mm height
I think you need to raise tonearm with 4mm spacer for ortofon (18mm height).
http://lpturntables.blogspot.kr/2011/06 ... -rega.html

Also you may need longer bolt to install spacer.

If you gonna use Grado, consider height difference and get appropriate spacer.

Grado height is 17.5mm. 4mm spacer may cover both catridges.
If you are serious about sound, you need 3.5mm spacer.

Enjoy

What is the function of this device? You can solve the skipping problem. Sorry to ask you this question, but I do not understand too much how it works and I'm a little discouraged with this turntable. It has two months and never worked well. I also do not find info about this problem. Thank you for responding to my inquiry.
Thank for your time

I wonder if this is an issue related to the non-adjustable anti-skate on the
new RB220 arm?

Hi,
Maybe it's just like you say.
I see that this problem has it all watering this model.
If it is as they say it is the VTA, it is a problem to change the cartridge.
Only Rega cartridge can be used.
