Fidelity Designs (Ben Lamb?)

Postby trick cyclist » 09 Aug 2016 00:20

Been doing a trawl of various upgrades for an old Planar 3, and came across an ebay listing for alloy subplatters for £50 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subplatter-upgrade-for-Rega-Planar-2-3-25-Rega-P1-P2-P3-Rega-P3-24-RP3-/331924267596?hash=item4d483a624c:g:KlcAAOSwmtJXT19Y. Going to the associated website, I found the page http://www.fidelitydesignsltd.co.uk/subplatters/subplatters.html, and the site appears to have recently appeared since June, created by a Ben Lamb.

Anyone hear of this firm, or of Ben, or even have tried the subplatter and can comment. It's half the price of a tangospinner, but is it half as good (or even worse than Rega's delrin one)?

Have just ordered a subplatter/bearing of Ben,excellent chap to do business with.
Ben has built me a special for my deck, the subplatter sits a bit higher and bearing made to fit the hole in my deck, turnaround was 1 day,had pics, invoice to pp could not be easier top man yea good price too

tbh don't think you'll hear the difference between the different alloy subplatters

A bit strange got refunded before he got item back, when he got it said the spindle was bent from being pushed into the subplatter and had already refunded,no sorting it out,it only needed a new spindle, or maybe they're all like that
never refunded post on the faulty item, seen his adds on the bay if i'd bought it through them i'd give it negative feedback.
wasted my time and £10 post, back on the look for a bearing

Hi
I know this is an old post but I have just received a Rega subplatter from Ben and am completely satisfied, excellent communications and when asked to make it so the platter ran at 33 1/3 it was not a problem.

Hi Guys,

Picking up on this thread regarding Ben Lamb. I'm UK based so can't really justify the Groove Tracer upgrades which with shipping from the US are crazy pricey.

Has anyone had any recent experience with Fidelity Designs upgrades? Ben has over 250 positive fedbacks over on EBAY so he must be doing something right.

Following this thread with interest. As you say, Groovetracer prices are too high, and TS are more affordable, but prices fluctuate, and the Fidelity Design subplatter is much more affordable, also presumably will sound very similar to the TS?

I got a sub platter from Ben, his communication when I was asking him questions was excellent, and the platter itself was of good quality. My experience was good.

I've had a good experience. Ben is very responsive to my queries even over the weekend. I bought the delrin platter and it is well made which I can recommend as an upgrade in sound quality to stock glass platter.

Interesting - he has built up quite a portfolio of different bits since I last looked. Wonder what his design/engineering credentials are?
