REGA 1 hum

Post by Robparkhouse » 11 Dec 2019 13:37

Hi all,

I guess another question about hum - cant find the answer so here goes …

Playing my REGA 1 (2018 model) with a BIAS 2 cartridge …

As the cartridge nears the end of the vinyl ie. the cartridge is nearer to the spindle & therefore motor, there is a noticeable hum developing … if I move the cartridge past the spindle then a loud hum is apparent …

I appreciate this is the hum from the motor but why is the cartridge picking this up? is it normal ?

Thanks,

Hi, I might be wrong but I read somewhere on this forum that the Bias 2 cart is not compatible with the Planar 1.

If it’s the cartridge that is the same as the one in the performance pack then I’m sure it isn’t.

Others have reported issues.

Respect

Some carts are more susceptible to magnetically induced hum, from motors.

This is a normal "feature" of Rega turntables if poorly shielded cartridges are used. Strangely enough, Rega's own MM cartridges are like that. The hum should not be audible over the music so it's not a problem. With for example Goldring carts there is no hum.

Thank you all for your replies.

No major issues - as mentioned cant really hear it until the last track fades out and it is just discernible.

Though there may have been a problem !
