New Rega P10 ...

Post by Pikey » 11 Sep 2019 21:04

It seems the new Rega P10 is out and about ...
The Apheta 3 moving coil cartridge was developed alongside the turntable using Rega’s most advanced “Fine Line” diamond profile, and is sold separately for £1250 or packaged at a discount with the P10 for £4499 (without it, the deck is £3599).

The lid/cover looks like on my Thorens TD203, but more curvy. :) Same idea, you put it on the spindle and then it covers the platter and the tonearm. It's interesting that Rega tries something different, they have been quite, shall we say, traditional in the past. Now the platter hangs over the plinth. :) But, as usual, the big question is the sound.

It will be another home run from Rega I’m sure.

Oh yes.
I like the new PSU. Much beefier than mine with my Planar 8.

I would love to trade my Rp10 in for the new P10 but being a little OCD, would mean changing out my entire system to the Rega Aura and Rega Aethos so everything matches- and I know the boss would not be happy since I just convinced her that my system was finished after purchasing the Saturn-r in February :D
I’ll keep playing the lottery!

Nice! I wonder if that platter is compatible with the P8?

I don't like (the look of) it.

Just as I didn't like (the look of) the Planar 8.

Means the square root of b****r all at the end of the day, of course...

Looks like a higher end P8. A lot of the same design ideas with even better parts. I have a P2, which I like a lot, but give me one of either the 8 or10 and I’d be very happy!!

I actively wanted an RP10 rather than a P8 because I wanted the full lid. That thing is still going to get pretty dusty.

I've only read a couple of reviews of the P10. Yes, they were very positive but I was put off by them saying that the P10 was even more unforgiving of poor records than the RP10. I don't want that.

I also don't understand why Rega keep changing the styling of their boxes one at a time. Right now, the styling of that box doesn't match anything else they make. My RP10 power supply matches the DAC it's sitting next to. If I wanted to buy an Aria phono stage I'd have to find an older one as the current one with shite looking plastic front doesn't match. And this new P10 PSU doesn't match...anything. What the heck?

Perhaps the new case is the first of a new range coming up? ...

Maybe, very possibly but they just can't seem to settle on a house look for their electronics. The aesthetics have been all over the place.

I’m of the same opinion- I wanted to finish off my system with the Apollo-r but couldn’t find one and didn’t want the new one because of the different look. I ended up purchasing the Saturn-r which is great but now I’m left trying to sell my Dac-r.

I can't sort out the box styling but this would help keep the dust off.
