Ultimate Rega dust cover hinge replacement!

So I bought a second hand Rega Planar 3. The hinges broke during shipping. I was immediately perturted by the seemingly cheap design. I measured the distances between the holes and voila, they match up with the holes for a run of the mill cabinet hinge. Off to Lowe's I go, get the hinges I want, black color, $3.69. Mind you these have springs in them which will keep the cover open when you open it and closed when you close it, it's gorgeous. I get a box of 8/32 1/2" screws, #10 washers, and 8/32 nylon lock nuts to affix the hinges to the cover. The regular screws they come with will work for affixing to the plinth. I drill out the leftover metal eyelets with a 5/32 then open the holes a bit larger with a 3/16. I mark and drill the third hole in the dust cover, as the hinges have a third hole. These things NEVER work out this good. I mean it's perfect, and it'll be perfect for years. This took about an hour and less than $20. https://i.postimg.cc/7YQ5X243/20190615-190842.jpg

Thanks, but only problem is vibration is reduced by playing with the cover removed and this does not allow for that.

cheers though.

Agreed, the ease of removing the cover by simply lifting it off is something I would not want to give up. I have 3 tables and always listen with cover off.

Something like a lift off hinge might be an alternative...

No spring or not as pretty and holes probably don't line up as well, but with a little modification....

I agree with this. A while ago I knew about a guy who used to cover his turntable(s) with a silk foulard! :P

Turn the bolts around so you see the heads not the nuts. Looks much nicer :-)
