Rega RP1 Bias 2 tracking force

Post by Acotter » 14 Nov 2019 09:15

Hi guys,
I’m having an issue with the tracking force on my RP1, the Performance Pack was factory fitted. I had to replace the Bias 2 cartridge a year ago , I had the guy in the shop where I bought it fit the cartridge for me. I had some issues with skipping but reset the anti-skate and sorted that issue.
I bought a stylus gauge and with the counter weight all the way forward, the max I can get is 1.35g, it’s supposed to be between 1.5 and 2g, 1.75g being the ideal as far as I can make out. Any ideas?

Hi Acotter,
Did you use the same screws and bolts after replacing the cartridge?
I once used lighter screws by mistake when I replace a cartridge on a Planar 1, and it took me a while to realise what I had done - the difference in weight was substantial - about 0.5g. Apart from that, is your gauge accurate?

How did you alter the antiskate on a Planar 1 - is it not factory set? Did you pull the magnet out - or add a magnet to the opposite side. Just asking out of interest.
The problems I had with antiskate on the RP1 made me save up and get an RP3, which has adjustable antiskate.

Hi, good point about the screws. The RP1 is not the same as a Planar 1 though. The op has a RP1 which has adjustable Bias and the P1 does not.

I did exactly the same … I could only achieve 1.50 … so added a tiny weight and now have 1.72 - runs fine !
