Garrard SL95 b 7/10 inch record platform adapter

Post by chrissywit » 14 Jul 2019 15:11

Hi all,
Does anyone know a good place to look for a record platform adapter for the Garrard SL95 b? I believe the Garrard part number is #74591. To be honest I've never seen one for this model but I have seen a similar thing fitted to a Garrard zero, it was just a plastic extension that attached to the record platform.
I have got the LRS 25 adapter for large center 45's and it works well but don't fancy popping out the centres of all my old 45's lol.
I'd also like to hear from anyone who has one of these to sell.

Kind regards.
Chrissy.

Hi Chrissy, think the item you're referring to is the platform just to the left of the tonearm? If so this is part No 74281 and it's function is to hold 12" records when playing stacked records with the long spindle. Not that i ever do. It just lifts up and hooks onto the top record and keeps things steady when auto change is in operation. I have a brand new SL95B which was a loft find and came with the part and a blanking plate if you didn't want to fit it. Perhaps yours got mislaid in the mists of time? As i said it's not really of much use if you only play single 12" records.
Regards, Neil.

Chrissy,
Yes, that is the correct part number but they appear to be EXTREMELY rare. I'm not even sure Garrard ever actually made that adapter even though the part number exists in the manual. In over 50 years of playing with and fixing Garrard record changers I have never seen that part nor found anyone who has either.
Lovely base on your 95B. Is that metal or painted wood?
Rick

In all my years of Garrard-ing ive only ever seen one of the platform extensions for 7" records. It was on a Zero 100 at an audio fair that was tatty, filthy and up for a stupidly high price, so I didn't buy it. I still wonder if I should have!

Hi guys,

I'm really sorry for this terribly late reply and I thank you all for your replies. I have good news........ I've located the said adapter on eBay in the USA, I was very surprised as I'd have thought the consumer group would have needed it the least but I do remember 7 inch 33rpm records were popular for a while in the States. Anyway I digress I'm ashamed to admit I've paid $20+$20 shipping for a sliver of plastic that Garrard should have included as standard with every changer in this series especially in the UK.
When the adaptor arrives I'll post pictures on here and as it's such a rare part I'll do a Youtube presentation.
Thanks to all that have admired my Garrard plinth, it's mostly plastic with a brushed aluminium wraparound the logo is pressed in.

Kind regards to all.
Chrissy 🙂
