Nagaoka club

Postby madog99 » 03 Jun 2017 02:28

Well finally got a Nagaoka cart tonight , MP-30 . I am impressed . I have a few other carts but I find I seem to like the moving iron ones the most and the Nag is MI also . It seems to track through problem lp's better than my other carts , with less surface noise ? But I did not download the manual to read about using plastic washers to isolate the cart from head shell so have a slight hum , will need to re-do the install tomorrow
But once I get this installed with the plastic washers it may become my fave MM cart.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. Ive always wanted to give Nagaoka's a try but the prices have seemed to sky rocket (especially here in Canada). Used ones don't seem to come up too often either.

I have an MP500 imported from Japan and I love it too. I prefer it to my AT150MLx.

Congratulations on getting an MP-30. I have an MP-200 in my rotation and really enjoy the Nagaoka sound. I only wish more enthusiasts could try Nagaoka. Unfortunately fullhoused is right. The prices have become way too high for anything above the MP-110.

I was reading up that they make a lot of parts for other brands , strange they don't get more press ? Guess the price might be a factor for a MM design vs MC ? The MP-500 is going for $950 in Canada .

MP-500 is going for $995.99 at planet of sound in Toronto, too rich for my blood. Pity, I've heard great things about the whole Nagaoka line.

I have an MP110. Even those are approaching $200 up here. I really like it though

I hope you like it , as I said I seem to prefer the sound of the MI carts over MM like AT , Shure etc .I will be looking for a new stylus for my Nag soon once the kitty gets filled back up again

The jump from even the 110 to the 150 or 200 is pretty severe. No advanced stylus option until the top model. I'd still like to try the 500 someday, but it's going to have to wait.

I must admit I'd most likely be using my Nag MP110 if I didn't have the 2M Black fitted at the moment!

I have Nagaoka MP110 and AT440MLb both are good. I like little more AT440 because sound is little bit more live than MP110. I´m curious which of higher nagaoka cars should compare with AT440??

Count me in the Nagaoka MP-110 club, thanks to the recordings on YouTube by Barakapdub and HiViNyws Channel. Can confirm that it made the sound very pleasing and smooth. I bought the MP-110 with a headshell and was able to hook it up without any problems on my JVC QL-Y5F earlier this year. Someday, I'll upgrade the Nagaoka to something better but for now, mine compliments well with my Ortofon 2M Bronze.

The only Nagaoka cart that is anything at all like the 440/540 is the MP-500. It has a line contact stylus. Everything else from the MP-110 to the MP-300 are ellipticals. They may be very good ellipticals but they are still ellipticals and won't be able to trace the inner grooves as well as a line contact or microline, especially on aggressively cut records with narrow deadwax. This is only important if you are sensitive to IGD and own a fair amount of aggressively cut records. Many people choose to tune out IGD, don't notice it, or are playing mostly conservatively cut records.
