Post by jchambers70 » 30 Apr 2016 01:06

Does anyone know a good cartridge that will fit the sr-525 Sansui?

I had such a cartridge, many years ago. I liked it until I went to MС cartridges.

Your question is rather open, as there are many cartridges that will go with your turntable - it takes standard half-inch mount cartridges. Your maximum budget would be useful. If you're looking for a bottom-budget cartridge, the AT95E is excellent for the money and a good all-rounder.

Ok thank you. That looks like the one that's on it now with a bent stylus. I'm thinking of spending up to $200-$250 for a new cartridge.

OK, so you have a decent amount of money to spend on a cartridge. Different cartridges have different sounds characters, so it is best to choose one that suits your tastes. The main possibilities are:

Audio Technica AT440MLb
Ortofon 2M Blue
Denon DL-110 (high-output MC used with MM phono-stage)

You should take a look at the reviews of these cartridges on this site and elsewhere.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the reviews on them. Hopefully this tt is worth spending the money on. Bought it for $20. Seems to keep its speed well and is complete. Thanks again

If you want to dip your toe in the water first with this turntable, you could buy either the AT100E or Ortofon 2M Red, as both of these are upgradeable by replacing the stylus. The AT100E can be upgraded to the AT120E or AT440MLb and the 2M Red can be upgraded to the 2M Blue. The Denon is an MC cartridge and doesn't have a replaceable stylus.

Ah. Ok. I'm learning a lot on here. Listened to records my whole life but just recently am getting into the audiophile side of it. Thanks for the knowledge

That TT is definitely worth it! Are you kidding me? IT'S A SANSUI, MAN! 8)

I have an SR-212 in my "ultimate vintage system" with a 5000a receiver...Many others also have some fine Sansui equipment...They rarely made a goof with their stuff...Their vintage 70's stuff is incredible, indeed... =D>

And who can argue with $20???

I'd sure like to know where you found her! :-k

Oh, and there are some very fine Shure cartridges like my M91ED that might fit the bill, too...A good friend here sent me an Ortofon FF10xE for mine...THe FF15xE is also a favorite of many, too...Apparently, the 525 can accept any cartridge from 4 to 11 grams, so that leaves you with plenty of choices!

The Shure M91ED and Ortofon FF15XE cartridges mentioned by vinyl master are vintage cartridges for which you'd need to find a used M91 or FF15 cartridge body - they frequently come up on eBay. You'd need to buy an aftermarket stylus for the Shure, but Ortofon still make a replacement FF15xE stylus. The modern Shure M97xE will actually give a warm sound similar to the M91.

I would like to replace the cartridge of my Sansui Sr-525.

Right now it has the sv-28. In order to mount the AT95E .....

Will I have to adjust the arm height and lateral balance?

Thanks. Greetings
