Yes, I was confused by marketing babble probably, but here it states clearly a rectangular shank, opposed to the old square shank. But then a square is also rectangular :mrgreen: From the 2017 brochure

Hi, it is a USB microscope made by Opti-Tekscope. They make several different models, but I don't see a model number on mine. Here is a pic:

Does anyone know of ESCo's "Stereo Extended Contact" stylus? I had them retip my AT95E with one for a little more than half the price of their Paratrace. I asked about the shape of it and they say it's 6 x 17 um (about .24 x .67 mil) but claim that it's not an elliptical. I'm confused.

Anyway, to my ears it sounds better than Paratrace.

Yeah, you have to click on them to see them unfortunately. Sign of the times. I have not tried uploading directly so don't know the file size limitations, etc. Next time I share I will do both...

I *think* it's only 1MB. My USB microscope pics don't have to be resized (only reformatted), but camera-phone pics do have to be reduced in size/pixels. I just use MS Office Picture Manager to open and then resize images so they basically fit my monitor screen...or a size I would like to see as a viewer/user. You can always upload and preview your posts here in the forum to get an idea of limitations.

I have two identical cartridges. The first has 100 hours of playing, the second I bought it as NOS. Currently this needle played about 1 hour. Their needles differ as you can see in the picture. Is not that strange?

I emailed ESCo about the Paratrace deminsions. They say it's "17 x 25 x 6 um" with 6 being the side radius. It's designed to play both stereo and mono records with effective a .2 side radius. I've never seen 3 dimensions use to describe a stylus shape....but this leads me to believe the "stereo extended" stylus is the same shape but narrower....maybe more like "true elliptical" or mini line contact while the paratrace is a ridge type of hyperelliptical? I'm not sure, I'm pretty new to studying stylus shapes and am totally confused now. I read that the Paratrace was 4 x 70 um

JR: Philips also used to specify three radii for their SST needles (7 x 18 x 25 µm for the GP422II, 7 x 18 x 35 µm for the GP420III and 6 x 18 x 35 µm for the GP922Z) as did Acutex for the models with STR needle (0.3 x 1.6 x 0.5 mil for the Vital STR and 0.3 x 1.6 x 0.6 mil for the STR and Perfect STR).

I suspect the two larger radii are the familiar ones associated with the "overall" tip dimensions. The third (small) radius may be the rounding of the surface of contact ridge. It would be bad to have the contact ridge be sharp-edged, so maybe it's rounded to ensure it does not cut vinyl when new.
