Would you guys say an ortofon super om 5e with stylus 40 is an improvement over my audio-technica vm540ml? Want to match the tonearm and preset antiskate on my sonab 85s even better, and ortofon has the same weight and tracking force as the original cartridge.

I cannot answer that question, but I can offer you the change to try a Super 40 to see what you think. It's currently just over the border from you in Norway so needs to head back at sometime.

I can say both are very good :). I've been listening to both lately, and they have slightly different profiles, more obvious with some musical styles. But best tracking for me was at higher VTF for the 540, 2,2g and also higher antiskate setting. So perhaps Ortofon is best match for your preset antiskate at around 1,5g, and cartridge weight. On paper, at least. Bill's offer is a golden opportunity to find out :).

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. 😀 I did however do a little research, and found the Ortofon VMS 30 MKII, which were the highest in range from then. So I ordered one. My expectations are pretty high, hope I dont get disappointed.

The VMS30 was the generation before the OM and you can't get the fine line stylus for it anymore, so I hope you didn't pay much as that's a dead end. the VMS30 was equivalent of OM30 or 530 so a fine line rather than Gyger stylus.

Its from a vintage hifi reseller. It comes from a collector, so its not used so much, so the stylus is mint. It does come with 3 month warranty, i bought it for 1900 sek. And there are aftermarket styluses made for it, dont know how Good they are though. Is that cart for sale btw, the super 40?

1900 is a good price for very low hours if true. The current replacements from ortofon are bottom of the line, but I am sure someone can retip it once you wear it out. But if you like the VMS30 you can still buy the OM stylus 30 for around 2800SEK to give you an idea.
It's my only stylus 40 so I wouldn't sell that, but offer is still there if you would like to try it. The VMS series I have heard is a different presentation to the later OM/2M series but I have not had the pleasure.

Google translate. I will buy the om combo i were talking about later on if this combo isnt better than My current cart. Will probably Keep My carts a while to compare. Next step is moving coil, but that will be much more money im afraid. I might want to try your cart before a buy yes 😀 but i think i should focus on trying this cart first.

Let us know how they compare. I have a F15MKII, (lower end of VMS-series), but couldn't find any D30mkII styli. (Instead I found the 540, and it led a different path ;)). Ortofon recommends 400pf total capacitance for the VMS20, the VMS30 may be similar.
