Audio Technica AT(...)?

Post by hruki » 19 Nov 2019 06:57

Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone can recognize this cartridge? I can't, but can buy it for not much money. Should I buy it (or drink a beer instead)?

Thanks in advance!

That cart body looks like an AT95e, well respected but not expensive. I expect you've noticed it needs a new stylus as the cantilever is broken off. The stylus costs 2/3rds as much as a whole new cartridge. Hope that helps you make up your mind.

Thanks! The seller said AT93/95, but as he wasn't sure, I preferred to ask.

hruki: AT3401 or AT3450L. I.e., that light grey needle was a low compliance/high tracking force variant in the AT(N)3400/3450 family (to which the AT(N)93 and AT(N)95E(X)) also belong. So I'd agree with pp - not really interesting, unless you'd need an AT3400/3450 family body for whatever reason.

Thanks again! Now, I have another AT question. Trying to find the answer myself, I think I understood that Manfred is the man to ask!

AT110E was my new find and possible desire. What is the situation today with the replacement stylii? That's what I would like to know. AT110E looks cool, but are there any cool and not too expensive stylus options still around. How about AT115 or 120 then? AT100?

Is the stylus on the photo ("15"?) in this post the same one as in the pictures I posted first? Could it be of use with the cartridges I mentioned or not at all? If yes, what would be the fair price for it?

hruki: That needle is an ATN3600L and of no use for any of the aforementioned cartridges.

Well, and regarding the AT110E, there newer were all too many needles for that body - basically only the ATN105, ATN110E, ATN115E and the ATN410E and ATN420E. If you're lucky, Goldringstylus(.com.au) might still offer the ATN115E under their code D1108E for a pretty fair price, though.

Thanks Manfred for the australien connection! I recently read things about AT110 as being a low price/nice performance cartridge. I tend to fall in love with those fitting that description. But when I discovered that the stylus(es) are so hard to find, I begin to wonder should I go that road, knowing that very soon there will be nothing around to feed the old dog. Is the D1108E original or aftermarket?
