Cartridge re-tipping

Post by noisefreq » 18 Nov 2019 20:25

Anyone here use Cartridge_retipping-5 on eBay?
A guy named Joseph Long on Hartford, CT.
He has a good feedback but just wanted any first-hand knowledge.

He is a good guy, and does good work. He was one of the early proponents of sticking cut off cantilever tips on the stump of what used to be there, and I believe he has gone on to more sophisticated work.
He also was the first advocate I know of for really old stereo cartridges with better styli (or even with the originals). It is surprising how dynamic some of these early cartridges are, even though the tracking forces are pretty high (which is less of a problem with conicals). So I think he has a good ear. But he got in trouble over at Audio Karma when he didn't sufficiently distinguish his audio opinions and his nascent commercial enterprise, despite warnings. So he disappeared from the record there, which could have been one of the most significant paper trails for him to show his qualifications. So its a pity.
He did a couple of cartridges for me, and I was pleased with the result.

Thanks for that nat.
Yeah, I remember needlestein.
I believe that's who we're talking about.
I think he had a presence on VE as well.

I want to re-tip a Grace F9 with a line contact styli and he is much cheaper than others.
I think I'll go for it.

I'm very happy with a Shure V15 IV he did.

Yes, I used him for a retip job and it turned out excellent. I fully intend to have him do at least two more retips for me in the near future.

I had him retip a Shure M997H with a nude elliptical diamond. Great results and highly recommended.
