Budget? Music preferences? More info needed to make a valid suggestion.

Budget up to 200-250$ and music is blues, jazz, rock from 80's like Pink Floyd, from today - Metallica, Rammstein, but today music I don't have a much on vinyl.

Thorens 166 tonearm has effective mass 16.5g, and complains value of stylus should be about 5-7 not like basic ortofon cartridges om 10/40 - 20-25.
Looking for new cartridges, I want to avoid seeking of new stylus for vintage models.
Head has 1/2'' mounting.

From my POV I should choose some upgradable cartridge with possibility to change stylus to best in the future. But this is just a suggestion.

I have found AT 440 MLb that seems like good choice. But I don't know differences between the same price/quality types from others.

If Ortofon is out, then investigate AT VM95ML, or VM540ML. The latter being more detailed. The former, perhaps having a perception of little more bass. Both very good. No need to upgrade stylus later since they both have the most advanced stylus profile.

What about AT 440MLb?
And some other firms instead AT?

440mlb is discontinued and replaced by VM540ML.

Do you want an advanced stylus profile like microline, or can you accept an elliptical stylus?

Denon DL-110 has a special elliptical - but it's a moving coil. Cannot replace stylus!

Grado - nice sound but elliptical stylus.
Nagaoka - nice sound but entry level cartridge has elliptical stylus and advanced stylus profiles are expensive in this brand.

I open for all types because I don't know differences in sound, I just have my first time to get some not entry level cartridge checking.

MC type is not an option, I haven't now phono amp supported moving coil cartridges. Just MM please.

It's OK from my POV.
Just see on lpgear that stylus from 160ML also can be used in cartridge 440 MLb.

I have owned the 440Mlb.
It is good. But I don't recommend it.
It's sound is to much orientated towards treble and does not have the most balanced sound.

I have read that the VM540ML has a slightly better balance of sound. The frequency response charts I have seen show that it has a flat frequency response.
I sincerely recommend this one over the 440mlb.
The VM540ML can also accommodate the 160ML stylus.

With the low Australian dollar, you could get a bargain Garrott brothers cartridge here. But I cannot review it for you. I just know they are well regarded.

Purely my gut feeling, but there's other vendors closer to you than LPGear for that 540. It's an excellent choice, but if it were me I'd be looking for a European seller rather than LPGear.

As always, just my opinion, YMMV.
