Sometimes I can’t explain what I see inside the cartridge. I find it hard to believe that it is possible to wind coils in a factory this way.
The intervention of a very, very inexperienced master is excluded.
Then what force causes the wire to deform?
This is a mystery.
But I can assure you that such coils will not live up to your expectations of sound.

Thank you for sharing these pictures, I've never seen a moving coil. This is amazing. New coil in MC20 looks perfect, I can't even imagine how it can be achieved. Is there a relationship between coil mass and cantilever size/mass?

regards,
dagfinn

There is a direct relationship between the mass of the cantilever, its length, the mass of the coils and the damping system of the coils. All this affects the oscillatory processes and resonances of the generator.
If all this is placed in a strong magnetic field, the task is complicated, if the generator is loaded, then it becomes even more complicated.
There are no trifles in the cartridge and there should not be unnecessary details - then the sound will delight. :)

I continue to reflect on the deformation of the coils - how would I act if I had been given such a task without opening the cartridge?
I would heat the coils by applying constant or alternating voltage to them.
Such a process can be simulated under conditions when the phono stage is faulty - there is a constant at the input, or you can try to demagnetize the core of the coils by applying a damped alternating voltage to the coils.
Such a device, the “demagnetizer of cartridges,” never got into my hands, but I know that they are sold. Maybe someone can see (who has such a device) what it has at the output?

Thank you for explaining. It seems like a very delicate choice, and not one I would want to make my self.

Oh, this is an exciting process! ))
These coils were born tonight.
I got so carried away that I forgot to photograph them without a cartridge.

Another NOS 205MK3 - there was the same problem - the damper.

Certainly - already on its way to salvation :)

Yet, not the most "alluring" close-up...

The cantilever with the stylus was not lost, he hid from the owner and was found by wire))
