Hi,

I have tried everything- new headshell, new wires, the new stylus that I bought to have handy. I have tried the cartridge on two different systems, two different turntables. The left channel of my Shure M97xE is out. And nothing will seem to bring it back. My questions are, I know this was a common known issue. Everything points to the innards of the cartridge itself. Is there a fix? If not, aside from this cartridge, did Shure make other carts that the N97XE stylus will work on?

Thank you!
One item of support hardware a cartridge collector should have is a digital multimeter. It can be used to check the integrity of cartridge coils. A "zero" reading for a channel resistance test means the connection between "+" and "-" terminals is open/broken. Dead channel. Buy, beg, or borrow a multimeter to find out what's going on inside. Or take your cartridge to one.

Pretty sure that these carts are potted inside. Finding enough wire to repair inside will be a tall order! Removing the potting compound is a tedious at best process!

Shure wants over $75 to service this cartridge. No way.

They would have to in order to honor the warranties of the remaining inventory that was still being sold after they exited the cartridge business.

I never looked at the warranty. But, I just figured it carried from 1 year of the manufacture date. There has to be a cutoff date somewhere. Otherwise they’ll still be liable for wholesale stock that sits for years.

It's two years, and it begins at the date of purchase. That's why they require you to provide proof of purchase, so they can tell whether your warranty is still in effect.

I don't blame you. I do know a guy who can fix it for $50 if you really want to keep using it.
