Bellari gear? Phono Pre, EQ, Tube phono pre

Post by Boltman92124 » 17 Jun 2019 16:20

Anybody ever check out some of Bellari's stuff? Seems reasonably priced. Made in USA. I was thinking about trying out their little 4 band EQ for the fun of it.

Some of it looks decent, but some of it is clearly very gimmicky. It's the same the company as Rolls, sometimes they do private label work for other companies.

IIRC I've heard their little cheap $40 phono pre in a store once. It sounds about as good as you'd imagine.

Cool thanks. There is a wide range of prices. I like the idea of a little 4 band EQ that can be plugged in somewhere(Phono) to fool around. Some LP's (stock reissues mainly that I'm sad I bought) sound like they could use a little help to sound better. I have dual mono volume pots and sometimes run my pre-amp in passive mode. Haven't had any tone controls for 25+ years. And no desire for a mega band/mega buck EQ type either.

If it's a cheap enough item or something that's returnable, I suppose the risk is low if you really want to try it.

I suppose "cheap enough" is relative depending on the person. What is the return policy if you don't like it?

Here's a nice thread on the VP130 : https://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_f ... hp?t=20586

Personally I've been using one for about 7 years. Ditched the stock wall-wort as I found it to be a bit noisy (replaced with a Radio Shack one...). Also ended up with a Sovtek 12AX7LPS tube which I liked the best overall.

After swapping around various built-in phono pre's in receivers and preamps, I always go back to it. I even had a Sutherland battery powered phono pre for a spell that didn't make the cut. I just didn't enjoy it as much.

Nitpicks: No power switch, bass is a little "fat-on-the-bottom", symbols sound a bit laid back/restrained.
However, I use the power switch on my A/V power center, and the sound to me is still preferable over something that sounds lethargic or fatiguing- which is not the case with this device.(IMO)

Agree on those Sovteks.
Nice tubes.

For $149 a Schiit Loki would be my choice were I looking for a tone control/equalizer.
