Shure V15 type ll - new needle pin required ?

Post by jbp » 19 May 2019 11:00

I use my Shure V15 ll mounted on a SME Type ll which worked fine so far - as it did in the older days. Since a few days the performance of my cartridge makes me wondering. E.g. playing Fleetwod Mac Rumours ("never going back again") the high frequencies seems to be replayed with jangling.
Similar effects I noticed on other LP when tracking reached ca 50-60% of LP's radius.

I do have to state, the the needle is quit old and used for a few years some years ago. I also tried to alter VTA and anti skating settings but could not solve it yet. What would be recommend to fix it:
- replace needle cartridge (jico)
- verify and realing tracking Parameter and settings

Thanks for any tips and hints?

Replace the stylus assembly.
Continued use of the old one might damage your records permanently.

Cheers,
