Cartridge advice for td165/tp11 and Ear834p

Post by alexj84nl » 19 May 2019 10:46

Hello all, Thank you for allowing me on this nice board. I need some advice for upgrading my cartridge. Current setup:
- Thorens TD165 (upgraded a lot)
- TD11 tone arm / tp60, i think mk1
- ortofon mc1turbo
- Ear 834p
- musical fidelity nu-vista m3 (js audio stage 2)
- dynaudio confidence c2 signature

I read good things about the 2m black but will does work with my setup (tone arm, headshell, weight, tracking, voltage, etc).
All advice is welcom, thank you!

You are currently using a High Output MC. When I had my TD-166 I did use a Ortofon Rondo Bronze. It sounded really nice. Personally, I feel going to a MM is a step down.

Thank you for your advice. How do I know if the Ortofon Quintet Bronze would be a good match for my tonearm, Ear phono and amp...

I can go on like others at how great a cartridge sounds and how well it works with your arm. Bottom line. You'll need to be willing to experiment a bit. The 2M Black is a really good cartridge. It's MM not MC. Arms, Pre-Amps. It's all synergy. All I read were rave reviews for the Hana SL. In my set up, it did not do well. So we can all "tell" you what to use, but in reality you need to decide what works best in your system.
