What cartridge is this ?

Post by TiffanySerenity » 15 Jan 2019 21:23

Hi, I just recently received a Marantz 6370Q turntable from my father-in-law, and we are unable to determine what brand this cartridge is. He said that he thought he got a Shure cartridge back in the 1980's, however this cartridge has a star with marantz written on it. I need to identify what this is so I can set the appropriate tracking force. Thanks.

It may say on the top. It also might be identified in the manual in the library here, if there is one.
I assume the Q in the model number means that it was intended to be suitable for Quad records, which may mean little more than the lead capacitance is low, but it might suggest that the cartridge also was suitable for Quad, and that might mean it is better than the average freebie cartridge.

Nothing in the manual, other than the arm seems much better than the average - clearly it is a Jelco variant, and well equipped.
The cartridge looks like a CT 1, based on the picture in the cartridge database, but alas, not other info.
