Here's a Technics P-Mount cartridge. The P153S.

The turntable it came to me on is a Pioneer PL-670. Build date circa 1987. Post CD invasion. An automatic direct drive built on the cheapest imaginable chassis. I thought I'd explore it regardless of its heredity.

oops!. It's got a twisted cantilever.

Back in the day I did not pay much attention to P-mount cartridges, but I am aware that some of the cartridges in this format can be worth looking into. I've no idea if this one is. But coming from Technics, I have a suspicion that the cartridge may be of more interest than is that PL-670.

And the price is already above $ 1,000. Major players are struggling, 3-5 thousand purchases. There are 3 more tonearms in the boxes. The seller is a serious specialist, so he put down all the little things and sells. He is not interested in selling trash by piece.

...but AKG is flawless, maybe he found his tonearm and his phono corrector. Perhaps he thanks his savior))
He made me listen to my favorite vinyl over and over again))

A cartridge that never ceases to amaze me.
With its installation on the tonearm, a weak background appeared in the system, which increases when I put my hand closer to the cartridge. I even checked all the grounding points of the arm))
It turned out that the plastic from which the cartridge was made is not a dielectric. Its resistance is about 2 kOhm / 1 cm.
Touching the connected cartridge with your finger is dangerous, the right speaker can jump out of its basket ))
I removed the background by additional grounding of the shell.

I have always been fascinated by AKG cartridges, although I have never had the opportunity to listen to one. My grandfather made several trips to Austria in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s to buy operetta records in Vienna. I now own many of those Viennese operetta records and I wish I had a Viennese cartridge to play them. :)

Now you know what to do ))
Remove the remnants of the old cantilever and stick a cactus instead ))
It's amazing that a couple of AKG passed through me, but their sound didn’t touch me at all.

Model AKG Nova P 8ES, by contrast, has been criticized on the Internet. Now this cartridge has taken a permanent place on my second tonearm, although I am not a fan of MM (IM) cartridges.
Probably MM fans haven’t found the sound that they are used to?
