Jelco MC-12E cartridge

Post by doctor fuse » 11 Mar 2019 22:34

I picked up an Akai belt drive turntable for $5, with a mess of a tonearm - someone tried to shove a universal headshell connector into the end of the arm. Apparently this Akai has a proprietary headshell.

Well, I needed another universal headshell, so $5 I'd not too bad a price for a good quality vintage one. If I can't salvage the arm, this deck will become an RPM.

The cartridge seems interesting, though. A Jelco MC-12E. I never knew Jelco made carts. Did they, or was this made by another OEM? It looks like it could be an Excel.

Is anyone familiar with this cart? It needs a new stylus, do if it is decent, any suggestions for a replacement needle? Can't find much online.
